Florine Gaspard Lowers Belgian 50 Breaststroke Record at Flanders Cup

Florine Gaspard lowered her Belgian 50m breaststroke record on day one of the Flanders Cup in Antwerp.

The two-time European short-course medallist posted 30.44 to slice 0.09 off her previous standard of 30.53 that had stood since the 2023 national championships.

She enjoyed a winning margin of 1.26secs over Henrietta Fangli (31.70) in a time that  elevates Gaspard to fourth in the 2026 rankings topped by Tang Qianting and her Asian record of 29.44 from the China Open.

Gaspard is coached by Mark Faber in Antwerp alongside the likes of Roos Vanotterdijk, Caspar Corbeau and Tes Schouten.

Corbeau is also competing at the Flanders Cup and he was the only man to break the minute mark in the 100m breaststroke, clocking 59.82 ahead of Noah Schryber (1:02.29).

Noah Verreth broke a couple of Belgian records at last week’s Lausanne Swim Cup, clocking 24.98 in the 50 back and 54.14 over 100m.

He almost wrote another entry in the record books on Friday when he posted 1:59.79 in the 200 back, just 0.15 off Stefan Maene’s 1:59.64 national standard that’s stood since the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

  • Sarah Dumont won the women’s 200 free in 1:58.38
  • Vincent van Hooydonck took the men’s 50 free in 22.25
  • Florentin Lovens headed the men’s 400 free in 3:56.78
  • Fleur Verdonck took the women’s 50 back in 29.30
