Federica Pellegrini Leads 100 Free After Prelims at the 2015 FINA World Cup Dubai

Prelims of day two of the FINA World Cup stop in Dubai kicked off with some fierce competition in the women’s 100-meter free. Federica Pellegrini of Italy holds a narrow lead going into finals with a 55.23. Katinka Hosszu of Hungary and Felicia Lee of the USA turned in strikingly similar times. Hosszu sits at second with a 55.31, while Lee is third with a 55.35.

Alia Atkinson of Jamaica turned in a swift 30.34 in the women’s 50-meter breaststroke, adding slightly to her 2015 best of 30.11. Australia’s Leiston Jane Pickett returns to finals as the second seed with a time of 31.30 and Turkey’s Viktoria Zeynep Gunes grabbed third with a 31.55.

Adam Peaty of Great Britain blasted to the top of men’s 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:00.06. South Africa’s Cameron van der Burgh returns as the second-place seed with a 1:01.21, while Kevin Cordes of the USA holds a narrow third with a 1:01.23.

Emily Seebohm of Australia continued to demonstrate her prowess in the backstroke by qualifying first for finals in the 100-meter back by over a second. Seebohm turned in a time of 1:00.65 ahead of Hosszu’s 1:01.83. Harriet Cooper of Great Britain rounds out the top three with a time of 1:01.86.

The men’s 50-meter back was loaded with talent as David Plummer of the USA, Mitch Larkin of Australia, and Michael Andrew of the USA battling as the top three seeds for finals. Plummer sits at first with a qualifying time of 24.82, while Larkin (25.39) and Andrew (25.70) sit close behind for second and third respectively.
