Ginevra Taddeucci clinched her first 10k title with a finely-executed gold in Paris where the Italian women enjoyed a 1-3 finish.
Taddeucci returned to the River Seine in which she won bronze at the 2024 Olympics behind the now-retired open water great Sharon van Rouwendaal and Australian Moesha Johnson, albeit on a different course at Pont de Grenelle.
Viktoria Mihalyvari-Farkas soon set the pace ahead of Taddeucci with the Hungarian leading throughout.
However, the Italian made her move on the penultimate lap where she upped the pace and moved into pole position.
She held a narrow lead over Mihalyvari-Farkas with Italian team-mate Linda Caponi in third before extending her advantage from thereon in.
Taddeucci came home to touch the board in 2:07:49.9, almost 10 seconds ahead of Mihalyvari-Farkas (2:07:59.6) with Caponi making it an Italian 1-3 in 2:08:03.4.
Taddeucci won four silvers – including the 5k and 10k – at last year’s World Championships in Singapore, a year after Olympic bronze.
She also won team gold at the 2022 Europeans in Rome along with three further silvers across two continental championships with Paris 2026 representing her first solo title.
Klaudia Tarasiewicz of Poland was fourth in 2:08:06.9 followed by Angela Martinez Guillen and Ekaterina Sorokina and Lisa Pou who couldn’t be separated in joint sixth place.
