Ellen Walshe Goes 4:35 To Lower Irish 400IM Record In Fort Lauderdale

Olympic finalist Ellen Walshe lowered her own Irish 400IM record to 4:35.32 at the Pro Swim Series Fort Lauderdale.

The 23-year-old came into the meet with a best of 4:37.18 from last year’s Sette Colli meet, weeks before she went on to finish eighth at Paris 2024.

Fourth at halfway, Walshe had moved into second after the first 50 of the breaststroke. It was a position she never relinquished as she came home to take 1.86secs off her previous mark.

Paris bronze medallist Emma Weyant won in 4:33.95 with Leah Hayes third in 4:38.78. Weyant goes second in the rankings behind Summer McIntosh and her 4:26.98 with Walshe one place behind her in third.
