GREENSBORO – Pulling away after the 75-yard mark, reigning NCAA champion Dylan Bosch dominated the championship final of the 200 butterfly at the USA Swimming short course nationals with a very strong 1:41.65.
It’s no surprise that it’s far and away the fastest time done in the collegiate ranks so far this season, but it should be noted that it’s six tenths slower than the Michigan junior swam to win the title last year. Bosch would follow his 2013 win with a U.S. Open mark of 1:39.33 at NCAAs.
Kyle Whitaker, now a postgrad at Michigan, gave Bosch a run for 75 yards but finished comfortably in second with a 1:43.33. Ohio State’s Tamas Gercsak won a tough battle for second over Navy’s Jonathan Debaugh, 1:44.45 to 1:44.54. Josh Quallen of Louisville (1:45.59), NOVA of Virginia’s Ted Schubert (1:45.72), Michigan’s Evan White (1:46.12) and Indiana’s Max Irwin (1:49.05) took fifth through eighth.
Bowen Anderson won the B final of the 200 fly with a 1:46.45, just missing his lifetime best by six hundredths of a second. Martin Vogel was second with a 1:46.64, while Christian McCurdy placed third with a 1:47.20. In the C final, Sam Pomajevich won the race with a 1:46.71 over the 1:47.42 by Matthew Beach and the 1:48.99 by Joe Brown.
