Clyde Lewis Dominates 400 IM Field in Day Two of the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games

Day two of the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa saw a large variety of athletes winning medals.

Fu Kang Wong of Malaysia kicked off day two with a gold medal in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke. England’s Edward Baxter grabbed second with a time of 1:03.72, while James Greig Isemonger of South Africa rounded out the top three with a time of 1:04.03.

Layla Black of England posted a winning time of 1:10.06 in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke. Second in the event went to Kaylene Corbett of South Africa and her time of 1:10.62. Scottland’s Erin Robertson was third with a time of 1:11.67.

Australia’s Vincent Dai dashed to first in the men’s 100-meter free posting a winning time of 50.26. Scottland’s Craig McLean grabbed second overall with a finishing time of 50.96, while third went to Lewis Clough of England who turned in a time of 50.98.

Lucy McJannett of Australia led the women’s 100-meter free with a winning time of 55.34. South Africa’s Erin Paige Gallagher turned in a time of 55.61 for second, while Australia’s Shayna Jack was a close third with a final time of 55.67.

Clyde Lewis of Australia dominated the men’s 400-meter IM finishing 6.62 seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 4:20.87. Joe Litchfiled of England finished second overall with a time of 4:27.49. South Africa’s Neil Fair turned in a time of 4:28.54 for third.

The top three finishers in the women’s 400-meter IM kept it close with only a handful of seconds separating their finishing times. Calypso Sheridan of Australia won the gold with a time of 4:49.38. Rebecca Sutton of Wales took home the silver with a time of 4:51.52, while the bronze went to England’s Tazmin Pugh and her time of 4:53.65.

Zane Waddell of South Africa sprinted to the top of the podium in the men’s 50-meter back posting a winning time of 25.94, making him the only athlete under the 26-second mark. Northern Ireland’s Conor Ferguson took second overall with a time of 26.19, and New Zealand’s Bayley Main rounded out the top three with a time of 26.42.

The women’s 50-meter back was led by a New Zealand 1-2 finish. Gabrielle Fa’Amousili turned in a time of 28.74 to grab gold for New Zealand and was the only athlete under the 29-second mark. Teammate Bobbi Gichard finished second overall with a time of 29.15. Gemma Cooney of Australia was third with a time of 29.72.
