Christin Rockway Highlights Night 3 of ISCA Summer Seniors

After an incredible record-setting night on day two, the 2017 ISCA Summer Senior Championships saw 10 more records fall on night three, starting with USA star Christin Rockway. The ISCA meet is being held at the North Shore Aquatic Complex in St. Petersburg, Florida from August 2-5.

400 IM

Before heading to Indianapolis next week for the FINA World Junior Championships, Christin Rockway of Tampa Bay Aquatics stopped in St. Petersburg for a 400 IM tune up. She set a meet record in the process, winning the event in 4:47.54 to better the previous record held by Megan Brown of Greenwood Swimming. The time was one and half seconds off her entry of 4:45.94.

Last night’s double winner and record breaker Peyton Palsha of St. Petersburg Aquatics earned runner-up honors with a best time of 4:55.41. Her strong back half set her apart from Gator duo Cabell Whitlow (4:59.87) and Emma Muzzy (5:01.69). New Wave’s Mary Pruden (5:01.88) and Sydney Willis (5:15.38) were also at it again finishing fifth and seventh, respectively.

Greenwich Y’s Ailee Mendoza took the sixth position with a 5:11.62, and Chloe Hampson (BD-5:19.29), Meghan Veenstra (Crimson-5:19.29) and Kylie McMahon (Naval Academy-5:26.86) rounded out the A final.

In the 16 and under event, Gators’ Caroline Kulp stole the show, finishing in 4:58.23. She was followed by New Wave’s Amanda Ray (5:03.77) and CPAC’s Elizabeth Boeckman (5:04.24). SNOW’s Rachel Schlemmer was not far behind in 5:04.87.

Occoquan placed a pair of women in this heat, as Apryl Stahl (5:07.20) and Erin Kerrigan (5:11.16) finished fifth and eighth. NOVA’s Zoe Dixon (5:08.45) and WTRC’s Nicola Lane (5:10.50) finished between the two, while WTRC’s Kait Lair (5:12.62) and Unattached Abigail Thrall (5:15.18) finished ninth and tenth.

In the men’s event, Keith Myburgh of the Gators crushed the previous meet record with a winning time of 4:23.56. SNOW’s Jackson Lucas was second in 4:34.51 and Occoquan’s Keven Stahl was third in 4:37.79.

Lucas’ teammate Michael Burris was next in 4:38.09, while Myburgh’s Jacob Lawson was fifth in 4:38.82. Weston Swimming was well represented in the final with Nathan Katz finishing sixth in 4:40.16 and Joshua Franco placing tenth in 4:50.45. Mako’s Fletcher Madsen (44.30), PCST’s Chad McGuire (4:44.75) and St. Petersburg’s Will Smith (4:50.16) finished between them.

The 16 and under race went to Naval Academy’s Bernhard Christianson in 4:31.76. CPAC’s Cole Pierce continued a successful week with the silver in 4:35.47, and Crimson’s Zach Grover won the bronze in 4:36.03.

Occoquan’s Gilbert Diaz (4:39.51) and St. Petersburg’s Caleb Kravitz (4:40.90) claimed the next two spots. John Moore (SNOW-4:43.61), Mcallistar Milne (Blue Devil-4:43.66), John Gallant (WHAT-4:43.91), John Zapp (BWST-4:57.85) and Kyle Brown (4:41.49) placed sixth through tenth.

100 Backstroke

Caroline Lee added another backstroke victory to her tally by taking the 100 distance in meet-record fashion. Her 1:04.62 was enough to break her mark from the prelims. Whitlow was second in 1:06.13 and Greenwood’s Carly Dickson was third in 1:07.06.

Dickson’s teammate Brianna Harnden tied for fifth with Princeton Pirahnas’ Grace Seitter. The women finished in 1:09.17, just behind Ailee Mendoza (1:08.49) of the Greenwich Y. The trio was followed by Taylor Williams of St. Petersburg (1:09.20), Yasmin Taba of Planet Swim (1:09.29), Kingfish’s Taylor Eck (1:09.43) and Zeus’ Hayley Linder (1:09.58).

Olivia Bray kept up her winning ways in the 16 and under 100 back, setting a new meet record in 1:02.79. Tampa Bay Aquatics’ Celismar Guzman set the record in prelims with a 1:03.60, but fell short to Bray in the finals finishing second in 1:04.18. Gator Emma Muzzy was a close third in 1:04.50.

Chelsea Piers had a pair of ladies finish next in Sophia Moore (1:06.50) and Kelly Montesi (1:07.17). Crimson’s Halle Moore (1:07.60) was sixth and was followed by Olivia Lind (Empire-1:08.30), Janika Perezous (SNOW-1:08.57), Madeline Campbell (Panama City-1:08.82) and Whittney Hamilton (Gators-1:10.19).

Khalil Fonder of the Gators was dominant once again, claiming the 100 back in 56.40. He led three other swimmers under the 1:00 mark, as SNOW’s Jackson Lucas (57.99), Azura Florida’s Edson Lima (59.81) and Rocky Mountain’s Nicholas Sherman (59.99) took second through fourth.

Racer X’s Isaiah Gregory (1:01.04), East Carolina’s James Reindl (1:02.54), SNOW’s Luay Hilmi (1:02.57), Crimson’s Spencer Brownewell (1:02.69) and Giorgio Traverso (1:04.08) rounded out the heat.

The Gators tripled up on 100 back victories with Noah Bowers claiming the 16 and under event by a huge margin. His time of 57.68 bested CPAC’s Cole Pierce (1:00.00) and Naval Academy’s Devin McClure (1:00.20) by over two seconds.

St. Petersburg’s Lukas Cote took fourth in 1:00.47, followed closely by Kingfish’s Connor Miller in 1:00.65. Crimson’s Zach Grover was also in the mix at 1:01.29.

Empire’s Adrien Pierce (1:01.68), Zeus’ Liam Colleran (1:02.23), East Carolina’s William Barker (1:02.66) and New Wave’s Zackary Shaver (1:03.35) finished seventh through tenth.

200 Freestyle

In an intense 200 free final, Occoquan’s Emily Hetzer stole the win and meet record from Palsha of St. Petersburg. Palsha set the mark of 2:04.94 in prelims, but Hetzer raced to a 2:04.69 to get the win. Greenwood’s Vivian Weng was third in 2:06.21.

Teammate Kasja Dymek placed fifth with a 2:07.82 and was preceded by CPAC’s Alexandra Truwit in 2:07.42. Kingfish’s Ashley Loomis took the sixth spot in 2:08.07. NOVA and WTRC claimed the next two spots via Annelisa Sanchez (2:08.58) and Nicola Lane (2:09.32). NEW Wave rounded out the final per Sydney Willis (2:09.79) and Mary Pruden (2:12.14).

After an epic anchor leg for victory in last night’s 800 freestyle relay, CPAC’s Bridget Semenuk took control of the 16 and under 200 free with a meet record time of 2:02.38. New Wave’s Kenna Haney was not far behind in 2:03.62 as she was also under the previous meet record.

Semenuk led three more CPAC swimmers in the heat as Lillian Clisham took third in 2:06.19, Emily Warner was eighth in 2:09.35 and Elizabeth Boeckman claimed tenth in 2:09.79. Clisham was followed closely by Amanda Ray of New Wave (2:06.34).

Blue Devil’s Tylor Mathieu took the fifth spot in 2:08.65, and led a tight race for the remaining spots over NOVA’s Morgan Burton (2:08.70), East Carolina’s Lyndsey Reeve (2:08.92) and Racer X’s Zoe Skirboll (2:09.79).

Iran Almeida won another race for the Gators, winning the Open event in 1:53.22. East Carolina’s Philip Perdue was second in 1:55.76 and SNOW placed Matthew Popovich (1:56.25) and Collin Hughes (1:56.37) in the third and fourth positions.

Julian Iturbe of Azura Florida was fifth in 1:56.65 while Occoquan’s Michael Blake was sixth with a 1:57.92. Rocky Mountain’s Nicholas Sherman was next in 1:58.15 followed by Jonathan Ratliff (1:59.55), Austin Lansberry (Occoquan-2:00.07) and Keven Stahl (2:02.26).

SNOW’s John Moore claimed the won the 16 and under race with a 1:56.20. Teammates Victor Pliuskaitis (1:58.02) and Samuel Oliver (1:58.59) were fourth and seventh. CPAC’s Stephan Todorovic continued his impressive week with runner-up honors in 1:57.29.

St. Petersburg’s Lukas Cote was a close third in 1:57.86, and Occoquan’s Farran Barker was fifth in 1:58.13. Andrew Relihan (Planet Swim-1:58.49), Mcallistar Milne (Blue Devil-1:59.00), Devin McClure (Naval Academy-1:59.80) and Andrew Hernandez (Naval Academy-2:01.76) rounded out the A final.

50 Freestyle

In a tough battle for the top spot in the Open 50 free, SNOW’s Melissa Cundiff got to the wall first in 27.11 just ahead of Greenwood duo Weng (27.16) and 13-year-old Teresa Ivan (27.19). Greenwood totaled four swimmers in the heat at Dymek finished fifth in 27.58 and Isabella Song tied for eighth with Occoquan’s Hetzer in 27.99.

East Carolina also had great representation from Svea Torres (27.73-6th) and Morgan Despres (27.92) while CPAC’s Truwit claimed the fourth spot in 27.50. Greenwich Y’s Hannah Subramaniam rounded out the heat in 28.32.

Semenuk posted a blazing 26.10 for the meet record and the win in the 16 and under race. She won by over a full second of Cayman’s Alison Jackson (27.16). Skirboll (27.24), Weston’s Charlotte Proceller (27.32) and Fairport’s Serafina Viola (27.49) were also in the mix.

Hamilton (27.71), Haney (27.80) Burton (27.89) and Abigail Daniel (Occoquan-27.89) and Eboni McCarty (28.44) rounded out the heat.

Azura Florida’s Daniel Torres claimed the men’s 50 in 23.59, and was followed by Corey Shepard of Occoquan (24.10) and Fonder (24.31). Perdue was not far behind in 24.33. Racer X’s Isaiah Gregory was next in 24.45 just out-racing Rocky Mountain’s Nicholas Sherman in 24.47. Norman Gregory was seventh in 24.61, followed by Justin Lawrence (Charleston Southern-24.64), Iran Almeida (25.24) and Collin Hughes (25.27).

Kimani Gregory, also of Racer X, won the 16 and under race in 24.09. This broke his own meet record set in the prelims. CPAC’s Marcus Hodgson was not far off with a 24.12 while Gator Noah Bowers was third in 24.54.

St. Petersburg’s Nicholas Metro also dipped under 25, finishing fourth in 24.94. Cayman’s Zachary Moore was next in 25.02, and Naval Academy’s Edward Randolph took sixth in 25.06. Evan Weakley (Gators-25.12), Pierce (25.37), Max Milicevic (Planet Swim-25.43) and Connor Gamble (Mid-Cities Arlington-25.54) rounded out the A final.

400 Medley Relay

The Gators team of Muzzy, Kulp, Bray and Hamilton set a new meet record of 4:19.02 in this event. CPAC was second in 4:22.98 and Greenwood took third in 4:27.92.

The Gator men followed up the win with a victory of their own between Bowers, Keith Myburgh, Almeida and Fonder. Their 3:49.07 set a new meet record.

Lucas, Burris, Popovich and Hughes of SNOW Swimming were also under the previous meet record with a 3:51.63. Naval Academy took third in 4:00.80.

The Gators now hold a significant lead over the competition with 782.50 points. SNOW is second with 584.50, followed by CPAC (466), Occoquan (331) and Greenwood (303).
