The men’s one meter finals occurred today, after preliminaries took place two days ago. The men’s event was followed by finals in women’s synchronized platform.

In the men’s one meter event, China took the top two spots. Peng Jianfeng finished just 1.2 points ahead of teammate He Chao.

The top six men finished with the same standings in finals as they did in preliminaries. The bronze medal is headed home with Giovanni Tocci from Italy, followed by Patrick Hausding of Germany, Mike Hixon from the United States, an Oleg Kolodiy from Ukraine.

American Steele Johnson, who was the last to qualify for the final after wrapping up preliminaries in the twelfth spot, moved up to secure a seventh place finish.

The highest scoring dive of the competition was Peng’s inward two and a half pike (405B), which he scores 86.7 points on. His back two and a half tuck (203C) followed close behind, receiving 9s from the judges and earning Peng 81 points.

In the women’s synchronized ten meter, the Chinese team finished on top again. Ren Qian collected her second gold in Budapest so far with partner Si Yajje. The duo finished 16 points ahead of Rae Kim Mi and Kuk Hyang Kim from the People’s Republic of Korea, and the Bronze medal was awarded to Panelela Pamg and Panelela Pamg, the team from Malaysia.

The three leading teams maintained their standings for the last three rounds of the event.

The Chinese women secured their gold with their final two dives, an inward three and a half tuck (407C) and a back two and a half with one and a half twists pike (5253B). They received 9s on both dives, which earned them 85.44 and 83.52 points.

Tomorrow’s events include men’s synchronized ten meter, and women’s synchronized three meter.
