Canadian Trials Will Return to Site of 1976 Olympic Games

The upcoming Canadian Trials, which will select the country’s squad for the Pan Pacific Championships, will be held at the site of the 1976 Olympic Games. Parc Olympique in Montreal will serve as the host venue when Summer McIntosh and other Canadian stars compete from July 5-9. The meet will mark the first time in 14 years that Parc Olympique has been host of a Trials competition.

“It’s great to be back in Montreal. There’s no doubt in my mind they will put on a golden show once again while hosting the 2026 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials,” said John Atkinson, the High Performance Director and National Coach of Swimming Canada…We are grateful for having the opportunity to return to one of Canada’s greatest cities to showcase the pinnacle of our sport in Canada. This event will be memorable, the competition will be electric, and I am sure it will once again spark growth for the sport in Canada.”

While Canada’s team for the Commonwealth Games has already been selected, the Trials will select the squad that will race at August’s Pan Pacific Champs in Southern California. McIntosh will be the headliner of the meet, and set three world records at last year’s Trials for the World Championships. The meet will also select athletes for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships (Aug. 17-20) and the Para Pan Pacific Champs (Aug. 28-30).

More than 680 athletes are set to compete and the return to Montreal will feature a celebration of the 1976 Canadian Olympic team that won eight medals.
