Brazier Leads LIU Post Women On METS Championships Day One

The Metropolitan Conference Championships day one finals were completed tonight. The men’s and women’s 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 400 medley relay were swam. The women’s 200 free relay and 50 free METS records were broken.

Women’s Meet

LIU Post won the women’s 200 free relay in the time of 1:32.03. With this time the team of Laura Benfeldt (23.83), Seren Jones (22.95), Joyce Kwok (22.81) and Meghan Brazier (22.44) broke their previous METS record of 1:33.69. The College of New Jersey took silver (1:34.15) with Nina Stegu (23.83), Tatiana Shepel (23.24), Alja Tavcar (24.13) and Yekaterina Gakhokidze (22.95).Ramapo College of NJ came in for the bronze with a 1:37.73 with the team of Meghan Trewhella (25.10), Brenda Arthur (24.53), Julia Housel (24.77) and Maggie Herbert (23.33).

In the women’s 500 free Bridgeport’s Annagrazia Botsanti took gold with a 4:48.33. Southern Connecticut’s Sydney Fromkin went a 5:08.21 for silver and LIU Post’s Eline Swenson went a 5:08.32 for bronze.

Kwok of LIU Post won the 200 IM with a 2:04.36. Jaimy Taskin from Bridgeport went a 2:07.59 for second place and Karis Fuller, also from LIU Post, finished third in a 2:09.59.

LIU Post’s Brazier won the women’s 50 free with a 23.02. With this time she broke the previous METS record of 23.04. Bridgeport’s Tatiana Shepel went a 23.39 for the silver and Ramapo’s Herbert came in third place with a 23.62.

With a 3:43.15 LIU Post and their team of Jones (55.35), Caitlin Johnstone (1:04.79), Kwok (52.91) and Brazier (50.10) won the women’s 400 medley relay. Bridgeport’s team of Gakhokidze (55.37), Taskin (1:05.64), Stegu (57.15) and Shepel (51.45) came in second place with a 3:49.61. The College of New Jersey came in third (3:59.28) with Brenna Strollo (58.67), Marta Lawler (1:08.05), Debbie Meskin (59.37) and Lauren Rothstein (52.19).

Men’s Meet

Rowan won the men’s 200 free relay in a 1:21.33 with the team of Jesse Novak (19.95), Anthony Czar (20.79), Nick Marks (20.43) and Eric Feuerstein (20.16). Southern Connecticut came in a close second with a 1:21.88 and the team of Brendan Murphy (20.49), Tyler Vander Vos (20.30), Raymond Snyder (20.87) and Raymond Cswerko (20.22). The College of New Jersey came in third (1:22.30) with their team of Joseph Dunn (20.99), James Shangle (20.99), Ryan Gajdzisz (20.25) and Andrew Nesbitt (20.28).

Bridgeport’s Klavio Meca won the men’s 500 free tonight with a 4:31.62. The College of NJ’s Gajdzisz took silver with a 4:35.40 and Louis Geist of Southern Connecticut came in third place with a 4:37.59.

In the 200 IM Ivan Capan of Bridgeport took gold with a 1:49.02. Rowan’s Mikey Simunek went a 1:52.50 for second place and PACE’s Nianzhonh Liu went a 1:53.44 for the bronze.

Novak of Rowan won the men’s 50 free besting his morning time and going a 19.93. The College of NJ’s Dunn went a 20.44 for silver and Bridgeport’s Didac Matsuyama took bronze with a 20.70.

Bridgeport won the men’s 400 medley relay in the time of 3:15.71 and the team of Brian Kelly (49.00), Capan (54.04), Matsuyama (47.83) and Will Du Plessis (44.84). Rowan’s Joe Furze (51.64), Paul Long (55.95), Marks (48.56) and Novak (43.67) came in third place with a 3:19.82. Alexander Skoog (51.53), Shangle (55.18), Dunn (49.23) and Scott Vitabile (44.52) from The College of NJ finished in second place with a 3:19.06.
