Boise State Takes Team Title At Mountain West Championships

Boise State won the 2017 Mountain West Conference Championships, finishing with 1390 points.

Air Force’s Genevieve Miller won her fourth-consecutive title in the 1650. The senior posted a time of 15:58.06 to break her own meet record. Boise State’s Emma Chard took second in 16:17.11 and Colorado State’s Haley Rowley finished third in 16:26.75.

Fresno State’s Ugne Mazutaityte won the 200 back with a time of 1:55.09. Wyoming’s Kelly Anna Sheldon finished second in 1:55.76 and UNLV’s Kyndal Phillips took third in 1:55.92.

Boise State took the top two spots in the 100 free, led by Brittany Aoyama. The senior won in 48.74, followed by teammate Katelyn Martin in 48.98. Nevada’s Rebecca Murray took third in 49.84.

Wyoming’s Maria Hartjunjan won a close 200 breast race, stopping the clock in 2:11.53. UNLV’s Sofia Carnevale swam to second in 2:11.89 and Boise State’s Emily Mathis finished third in 2:12.35.

New Mexico’s Anna Celine Bertrand was the only swimmer to crack the two-minute barrier in the 200 fly, finishing in 1:59.25. San Diego State’s Frida Berggren took second in 2:00.28 and Fresno State’s Esme Gullick took third in 2:00.77.

Nevada’s Sharae Zheng dove to first in the platform diving event with a score of 298.00. Wyoming’s Karla Contreras took second with 281.55 points and Wyoming’s Keely Bishop dove to third in 253.50.

Boise State won the final event of the weekend in 3:15.85. The team of Brittany Aoyama (48.79), Katelyn Martin (48.62), Cody Evans (49.38), and Emma Chard (49.06) took the title in the 400 free relay.
