Big Ten Women’s Championships Day 3 Finals: Brady Kendall Shatters 50 Meet Record; Wanezek Edges Sims

The 2026 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships continued with the Day 3 finals session on Friday, Feb. 19, from Minneapolis.

The events on the docket are the 100 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle and 50 free before 3-meter diving and the 400 medley relay.

Michigan got a couple of meet records to keep building its lead.

Here is a look at what happened Friday night:

Big Ten Women’s 100 Backstroke

Wisconsin sophomore Maggie Wanezek pulled a stunner to kick off the night to win the 100 back.

Wanezek got to the wall in 49.72, just three hundredth of a second ahead of Michigan’s Bella Sims (49.75), who had set the meet record of 49.67 during prelims.

Indiana’s Miranda Grana took third in 51.33, just ahead of UCLA’s Claudia Yovanovich (51.37) and Michigan junior Lexi Greenhawt (51.37), who tied for fourth.

Indiana freshman Alex Shackell finished sixth in 51.41, followed by UCLA senior Fay Lustria (51.54) and Indiana senior Mya DeWitt (51.75).

Big Ten Women’s 200 Breaststroke

Michigan senior Letitia Sim dropped four seconds from prelims to crush the field in the 200 breast, getting to the wall in 2:05.24.

Wisconsin freshman Brooke Corrigan took second in 2:07.29, ahead of USC junior Ashley McMillan (2:08.11) and Michigan senior Devon Kitchel (2:08.61).

USC freshman Bella Brito took fifth in 2:09.40, followed by Wisconsin senior Hazal Ozkan (2:09.57), UCLA junior Sarah Bennetts (2:10.47) and Wisconsin sophomore Catherine Hughes (2:11.00).

Big Ten Women’s 500 Freestyle

Michigan junior Hannah Bellard dropped six seconds to win the 500 free in 4:34.60, three seconds ahead of the field.

Ohio State sophomore Sienna Angove was second (4:37.44), followed by Nebraska senior Gena Jorgenson (4:39.15), Ohio State sophomore Mila Nikaronov (4:39.19).

USC senior Justina Kozan got to the wall in 4:39.58 to take fifth, ahead of Wisconsin senior Blair Stoneburg (4:42.18), OSU sophomore Emma Finlin (4:42.45) and USC senior Claire Tuggle (4:43.05).

Big Ten Women’s 50 freestyle

Michigan senior Brady Kendall sprinted to a Big Ten meet record in the 50 freestyle, getting to the wall in 21.09.

Indiana took the next two spots with Liberty Clark (21.47) and Kristina Paegle (21.57).

OSU’s Rachel Bockrath took fourth in 21.78, followed by UCLA’s Jada Duncan (21.85), USC’s Nicole Maier (21.93), OSU’s Carrie Furbee (21.83) and Iowa freshman Payton Flowers (22.15).

Big Ten Women’s 3-meter Diving

Purdue sophomore Avery Worobel claimed victory on the 3-meter board with a score of 364.60 just a couple of points ahead of Minnesota junior Elna Widerstrom (262.80).

Fellow Boilermaker Daryn Wright took third with 353.35.

Big Ten Women’s 400 Medley Relay

Michigan claimed another relay win in a meet record, this time with Bella Sims, Letitia Sim, Brady Kendall and Stephanie Balduccini getting to the wall in 3:24.08.

Indiana’s Miranda Grana, Jonette Lagreid, Alex Shackell and Liberty Clark were second in 3:26.15, also ahead of the previous record, held by OSU in 2022 (3:26.35).
