Big Ten Women Day 2 Finals: Anna Peplowski Breaks Meet Record in 500; Michigan Sets Mark in 200 Free Relay

The 2025 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships continued on Thursday from McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of Ohio State University.
The Day 2 finals consisted of the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free before moving to 1-meter diving and the 200 free relay.
Ohio State used its depth to take the lead over Michigan as Indiana and Wisconsin continue to rise.

Here is a look at what happened on Thursday night:
Big Ten Women’s 500 Freestyle
Another night, another Big Ten meet record for Anna Peplowski.
The Indiana senior and Paris Olympian won the 500 free in 4:33.86, an NCAA automatic cut that broke the meet mark set by Michigan’s G Ryan in 2017.
Peplowski started with a split of 24.49 and was in the 27s and 28s until the last 100 when she split a 26.67, then a 26.96 to get to the wall two seconds ahead of the field and four seconds ahead of her prelims time.
USC junior Claire Tuggle finished second in 4:35.43, also an NCAA A cut.
Michigan sophomore Hannah Bellard was third in 4:36.96, a B cut, followed by Ohio State’s Mila Nikanorov (4:37.32), Indiana’s Ching Gan (4:37.49), Nebraska’s Gene Jorgenson (4:39.31), Minnesota’s Eliot Kennedy (4:39.82) and Michigan freshman Rebecca Diaconescu (4:41.81).

Big Ten Women’s 200 IM
Olympian Phoebe Bacon held her top seed in the 200 IM, dropping more than a second from prelims to win the 200 IM in 1:53.12, an NCAA A cut.
The fifth-year from Wisconsin will look to score more points in the backstroke events, her speciality.
Michigan junior Letitia Sim expectedly took a jump from prelims and finished second with a swim of 1:54.64, dropping two seconds from prelims.
Ohio State took four of the next five spots with Sienna Angove (1:55.06), Paige Hall (1:55.45), Krista Marlin (1:55.66) and seventh went to Paige Delma (1:56.24).
Michigan’s Stephanie Balduccini was sixth (1:55.69) and Devon Kitchel was eighth (1:56.81).

Indiana’s Kristina Paegle was one of three swimmers to break 22 seconds in the finals of the 50 free.
The junior got to the wall in 21.64.
Michigan went 2-3 with junior Brady Kendall (21.76) and senior Lindsay Flynn (21.83).
Wisconsin’s Hailey Tierney was fourth (22.01), followed by Minnesota’s Olivia Wanner (22.09), USC’s Caroline Famous (22.17) and Ohio State’s Nyah Funderburke (22.25) and Rachel Bockrath (22.37).

Big Ten Women’s 200 Free Relay
Michigan won its third consecutive relay of the meet, breaking the meet record in the 200 free relay.
Brady Kendall, Claire Newman, Stephanie Balduccini and Lindsay Flynn won the race in 1:26.13.
Indiana’s Anna Peplowski, Mya DeWitt, Kacey McKenna and Kristina Paegle took second in 1:26.78.
Ohio State’s Teresa Ivan, Nyah Funderburke, Erin Little, Rachel Bockrath took third 1:27.67.
The USC and Wisconsin relays also got NCAA A cuts.
