Big Ten Women Day 1: Michigan Sweeps Relays, Sets Meet Record in 800; Indiana’s Anna Peplowski Leads off With Record

The 2025 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off on Wednesday night from McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of Ohio State University.

The first night consisted of the 200-yard medley relay and the 800 free relay.

Here is a look at what happened on night one:

Big Ten Women’s 200 Medley Relay

It was an extremely close race and finish between Michigan and Indiana with a tenth of a second separating the conference rivals.

Michigan’s Casey Chung, Letitia Sim, Brady Kendall and Lindsay Flynn won the 200 medley relay in 1:34.42, an NCAA automatic cut, and about a second off the Big Ten record.

Indiana’s Kacey McKenna, Brearna Crawford, Miranda Grana and Kristina Paegle finished second in 1:34.52.

Wisconsin’s Margaret Wanezek, Hazal Ozkan, Phoebe Bacon and Hailey Tierney took third in 1:35.07.

Big Ten Women’s 800 Free Relay

The Wolverines made it 2-for-2 on night one by winning the 800 free relay in a Big Ten meet record 6:52.04.

The time shattered the previous meet record of 6:54.58 set in 2019.

Stephanie Balduccini, Hannah Bellard, Malia Amuan and Christey Liang comprised the winning relay as Michigan took the early lead in the meet.

Ohio State’s Sienna Angove, Erin Little, Mila Nikanorov and Rachel Bockrath took second in 6:54.53, also beating the previous meet record.

USC’s Minna Abraham, Claire Tuggle, Mackenzie Hodges and Ella Ristic took third in 6:55.11.

Senior Anna Peplowski led off Indiana’s 800 freestyle relay with a 200 free split of 1:40.69, matching Michigan’s Siobhan Haughey’s Big Ten record swim from the 2018 Championships to rank tied-for-ninth all-time. Peplowski’s swim also shattered Haughey’s meet record from 2019 and beat her own program record by 28 hundredths. Only Virginia’s Gretchen Walsh’s 1:39.34 is faster this season.

Peplowski will swim the 200 free again Friday, looking to defend her Big Ten title in the event.

The Hoosiers finished fourth with a 6:55.53. Sophomores Miranda Grana (1:43.68) and Reese Tiltmann (1:45.50) and junior Kristina Paegle (1:45.66) followed Peplowski’s leadoff.

UCLA was disqualified.
