Australian “Iron Woman” Brittany Castelluzzo Unleashes Four Impressive Wins At The Victorian Championships

Brittany Castelluzzo is continuing her reputation as the “Iron Woman” of Australian swimming, chalking up impressive freestyle and butterfly doubles at the 2026 Mattioli Victorian State Open Swimming Championships.

The 25-year-old South Australian laying down an outstanding 2:07.89 (Top 8 in the world 2025-26) to power away in the 200m butterfly in her opening swim of the final night.

Before backing up four events later to produce a power-packed win in the 200m freestyle in 1:57.64, just outside the Top 12 swims in the world so far this season.

Castelluzzo had won her first gold medal in the 100m freestyle (54.30) on night one  – backing up later in the program to take bronze in the 800m freestyle (8:42.72).

Then 24- hours later she took out the 100m butterfly (57.99) to reassert her MVP properties in what will be a busy year for the Australia team.

Her wins were without doubt four of the stand-out swims of the meet from the girl from Tea Tree Gully who finished with a bang on the third and final night at the Melbourne Sports And Aquatic Centre.

The girl who won gold on debut in Australia’s 4x200m freestyle relay at last year’s Singapore World Championships is certainly on track again in 2026 as she prepares for a busy Commonwealth Games and Pac Pac double act.

And it wasn’t just the wins it was the way she attacked every race – especially backing up on night one and again last night – powering home in the last 25 metres of all her races.

If Castelluzzo was the “Iron Woman” then her South Australian teammate, dual Olympian Matt Temple (Marion) was the “Ironman”, taking out the 100m freestyle (49.30) and 100m butterfly (51.38) double.

Adding silvers in the 50m freestyle (22.55) the 50m butterfly (23.75) and bronze in the 200m butterfly (1:58.42).

Another stand-out nomination was Nunawading’s prodigal son, Paris Olympian Will Petric who added the 400IM (4:17.31) to his 200m breaststroke (2:12.54) win after finishing second to Kiwi training partner Lewis Clareburt in the 200 butterfly in 1:58.42.

While visiting Queensland sprint specialist, dual Olympian Isaac Cooper (St Andrews), wrapped up a rare treble.

The Ashley Delaney-coached 2024 World 50m backstroke champion adding the 50m freestyle (22.46) to his earlier wins in the 50m backstroke (25.09) and the 50m butterfly (23.72).
