Army West Point Secures Verbal From Breaststroker Gavin Santoso

NEW COMMIT: The United States Military Academy has picked up a new verbal commitment for the 2025-26 season and beyond from Futures qualifier Gavin Santoso of Arcadia, California.

He will join Matt Fortson and Lewis Esterly as a member of the Black Knights’ Class of 2029.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m incredibly honored to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the United States Military Academy at West Point! I want to thank God first for guiding me throughout this journey. I’m grateful for my coaches, family, and friends for making this dream come true and a huge thanks to the USMA coaches for giving me this opportunity! GO ARMY! #beatnavy”

Primarily a breaststroker, Santoso does his club swimming with Rose Bowl Aquatics. At the CA/NV Speedo Sectional Championship back in December, he won the B-final of the 100 breast.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.46
  • 100 breast – 55.44
  • 200 breast – 2:04.51
  • 100 fly – 50.35
  • 200 IM – 1:55.54

A rising senior at Loyola High School, Santoso finished 10th in the 100 breast at the 2024 CIF State Championships after placing seventh in that event at the CIF Souther Section meet. He also earned silver with his 4×50 medley relay at the state meet, earning All-America honors.

Under head coach Brandt Nigro, the Black Knights finished second in the team standings at the 2024 Patriot League Championships.
