Arizona State Announces Hiring of Alumni Jack Little, Daniel Matheson

Arizona State on Monday announced the hiring of alumni Jack Little and Daniel Matheson as assistant coaches to head coach Herbie Behm.

Matheson’s career at ASU wrapped up in the spring, the distance swimmer part of the 2024 national championships campaign. He was a Big 12 champion in the 1,650 freestyle and 500 free this year, the Sun Devils’ first in the conference, and was a six-time All-American. He placed on the podium in six events as part of Arizona State’s back-to-back Pac 12 titles in 2023 and 2024.

The Peoria, Arizona, native swam at the 2024 World Short-Course Championships, finishing 10th in the 800 free and 11th in the 1,500 free. He finaled at Olympic Trials in the 400 free, 800 free and 1,500 free.

Matheson received his bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in sports business in May.

Little was also a distance swimmer, from 2018-22, qualifying for a pair of Pac-12 Championships. The Arkansas helped Arizona State finish third in the Pac-12 Championships in 2022, part of the extended upward climb to the national title in 2024.

Little received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2022, then did a grad transfer year at the University of Tennessee. He earned his master’s degree in exercise physiology in Knoxville, serving as a conditioning coaching at club team Tennessee Aquatics while he was there.
