Andrew Rich Sets 100 Fly Records at NCACs Finals Night Two

The Kenyon women rode a huge morning into a successful finals session. The Big Red men built a slightly larger lead over the Lords after an incredibly close 800 freestyle relay.

Women’s Meet

Denison started the night with a solid victory in the 200 medley relay. Elizabeth KaneMarissa BednarekAshley Yearwood, and Mary Van Leuven went a 1:42.50. Kenyon’s Caitlin FoleyJulia WilsonLaura Duncan , and Hannah Lobb swam a 1:43.18 for second. DePauw’s Annie GravesMary WoodsAngela Newlon, and Caroline Bridges combined for a third place 1:45.62.

Kenyon freshman Marysol Arce was just off her morning pool record, but still won the Conference Title in the 400 IM (4:23.95). Newlon touched second (4:26.73). Mariah Williamson was third for Kenyon (4:27.48).

Carolyn Kane of Denison was first to the wall in the 100 butterfly (56.23), though Kenyon claimed the next five places. Haley Townsend (56.91) finished in a second place, B cut time. Teammate Natalie Parker was third (57.20).

Abby Wilson captured the 200 freestyle title for the Ladies (1:50.10). Teammate Hannah Orbach-Mandel finished third (1:51.39). Campbell Costley was second for Denison (1:50.73).

Wilson couldn’t match her morning swim, but still won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.54. Teammate Katie Kaestner claimed second (1:03.70). Bednarek touched third (1:03.73).

Yearwood was victorious in the 100 backstroke (56.48), leading a trio of NCAA B cuts. Kenyon freshmen Abby Chopp and Abby Wilson were second and third in times of 56.78 and 56.95.

The Ladies wrapped up a great evening with a win in the 800 freestyle relay. Orbach-Mandel, Delaney Ambrosen, Abby Wilson, and Esraa Abdel Khalik combined for a pool and meet record 7:26.31. This all freshmen relay has the potential to develop into something incredible over their time at Kenyon. Denison’s Costley, Alex ElizeusKate Wright, and Taylor Johns posted a 7:29.58, good for second. Oberlin claimed third (7:45.02) with the team of Kathleen FalkMaddie PrangleyNora Cooper, and Samma Regan.

Men’s Meet

Denison opened the night with a win, in an effort to stay ahead of the Kenyon Lords. Jason WesselingBrendan HowleyAndrew Rich, and Conrad Wuorinen touched in 1:29.97 to take the 200 medley. Kenyon’s Matthew CooperDanny JurgensChristian Josephson, and Ryan Funk were right behind (1:30.13) for second. DePauw’s Blake Lehmann Sam McManusBrandon Sholtis , and Matt Oonk clocked in at 1:31.22 for third.

Denison’s Jack Lindell (3:54.31) finished just shy of the meet record to win the 400 IM. Teammate Mitch Williams touched third (4:00.15). Lords’ Matt Leenhouts finished second (3:57.54).

Rich set the meet and pool records in the 100 butterfly, finishing in a time of 48.13. Lehmann finished second (48.85) while Josephson rounded out the top three (48.89).

The 200 freestyle title went to Kenyon’s Joey Duronio (1:38.68), though the Big Red grabbed the next three spots. Joe Brunk was second (1:39.21) and Ryan Fleming finished third (1:39.55).

Wabash senior Zechariah Banks held on for the win in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in a 55.35. McManus finished runner-up (56.04), while Kenyon’s Austin Pu earned third (57.08).

In the 100 backstroke, Big Red’s Wesseling won the championship with a 49.85. Lords teammates Cooper (50.38) and Oscar Anderson (50.43) were second and third.

The 800 freestyle relay was decided by two hundredths. Stuart Hohm (1:40.04), Ryan Fleming (1:38.97), Ryan Stevenson (1:39.75), and Brunk (1:38.54) grabbed first (6:37.30). Kenyon’s Leenhouts (1:39.74), Duronio (1:39.08). Ambery Sawaya (1:39.98), and Alex Seaver (1:38.52) settled for second (6:37.32). DePauw was back in third with Lehmann, Alex GrissomKurt Swieter, and Adam Pircon.

On the one meter, Ben Lewis (549.45), Max Levy (547.45), and Brian Allen (466.90) swept the event for Denison.
