Alabama, NC State Join College Swimming League

Alabama and NC State are the latest schools to announce their participation in the inaugural season of the College Swimming League.

Both teams made the announcements on social media this week Sunday and Monday. The schools join Virginia, Georgia, Auburn and Michigan as confirmed participants in the first season of the CSL.

The other six participants will be announced in the next week. One of them is likely to be Ohio State, whose head coach Bill Dorenkott has a testimonial on the CSL website.

The CSL is promising to be a, “brand new, dynamic league poised to revolutionize college swimming with high-octane, fan-focused competition.” It is, “is committed to elevating the sport by creating a sustainable, exciting platform that generates massive buzz and benefits the entire swimming ecosystem.”

“We’re proud to be part of a league that brings fresh energy and a new platform to showcase the best of college swimming,” NC State head coach Braden Holloway said.

Alabama finished 11th at the NCAA Women’s Championships this year, with NC State ninth. That gives the CSL six of the top 15 teams at women’s NCAAs last year, with Auburn 25th. The group includes reigning NCAA champion Virginia.

On the men’s side, NC State was sixth last year at NCAAs, making them the top-ranked of the seven men’s teams. Michigan was eighth, Virginia ninth, Ohio State 11th, Georgia 15th and Auburn 17th.

CSL meets will count toward NCAA dual meet requirements and be used for NCAA championship qualification. The 12 teams will compete in eight matches to crown one champion.
