Ádám Jászó & Fanni Kokas Crowned At Hungarian Championships As Kristóf Milák Returns
Ádám Jászó and Fanni Kokas won the first two titles of the Hungarian Championships in Sopron on a day when Kristóf Milák returned to competition after a year-long absence.
Jászó and Kokas each emerged victorious from their respective 50 back finals after navigating the semis at the start of the finals session.
Jászó booked lane four in 24.96 before returning to take the title in 25.30 ahead of Benedek Kovács (25.47) and Olivér Kós – younger brother of Olympic and world 200 back champion Hubert – who clocked 25.54 for bronze.
“I didn’t think this day would be so long,” said Jászó through the Hungarian federation. “I tried to distribute my strength and it showed, because in the 100m freestyle I barely made it into the qualifiers both in the morning and now in the evening, but I was pretty much dead. By the end, I was thinking about pulling in this fifty somehow, I succeeded, so I’m half-satisfied with this day.”
Kokas headed the women’s semi in 28.68 and came back to lift the crown in 28.47, 0.10 ahead of Lora Komoróczy (28.57). Katalin Burian was third in 29.47.
“I was very surprised,” she said. “I thought Lora (Komoróczy) would swim better. I had very good opponents, so I didn’t expect to be in first place. I knew how I was swimming and how the others were swimming and that it was going to be decided on the reach, so I didn’t give up.”
A BVSC-ZUGLÓ quartet dominated the mixed medley relay in 3:51.96. Bronze medallists Jövő SC featured three-time European 400IM champion Dávid Verrasztó who’s still competing at 37, 23 years after he first visited the podium in 2003.
