2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships: Erika Fairweather Qualifies for FINA World Championships

The third night of the 2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships was an eventful one. The nigh consisted of the following events for the women: 200 IM, 100 back and the 400 free. The men competed in the 400 free, 100 fly, 50 breast and 200 back  Erika Fairweather made the FINA A qualification time for the 2019 FINA World Championships later this summer as a 15 year old. Mathew Holder broke the 18 year of age record for the men’s 50 breast. Gina Galloway also broke the 18 year of age record for the women’s 100 back.

Men’s 400 Free

Zac Reid of Aquabladz New Plymouth Swimming was first in a time of 3:50.61 to start off night three of the 2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships. In second was Lane Stone of Aquagym Swimming Club in a time of 3:55.65. In third was Quinton Hurley of Jasi Swim Club with a time of 3:57.59. Matt Hyde of Matamata Swim Club followed in fourth with a time of 3:58.04. In fifth was John Clark of Whakatane Swimming Club in a time of 4:02.40. Louis Clark of Aquagym Swimming Club finished sixth with a time of 4:02.82. In seventh was Riley Taylor of Swim Timaru in a time of 4:06.14. Joseph Stewart of Pirates Swim Team rounded out the heat with a time of 4:07.44.

Women’s 200 IM

Helena Gasson of Coast Swimming Club touched first with a time of 2:15.20. Hannah Bates of Aquagym Swimming Club followed with a time of 2:18.34. In a tie for third, was Ella Ramsay of St Peter’s Western and Gina McCarthy of Hillcrest Swim Club with times of 2:18.95. In fifth was Mya Rasmussen of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 2:22.19. Katie Strachan of St Peter’s Western touched sixth with a time of 2:23.74. In seventh was Tyler Finau of Enterprise Swim Club in a time of 2:27.25. In eighth was Nikki Chapman of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 2:27.55.

Men’s 100 Fly

Bradlee Ashby of North Shore Swimming Club was victorious with a time of 53.75 at the 2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships. In a tie for second was ‘aukai Lileikis of Hawaiian Swimming and Wilrich Coetzee of North Shore Swimming Club with time of 54.60. In another tie, but for third, was Zhou Wang of Shanghai Swimming Team and Ben Littlejohn of St Paul’s Swimming Club with times of 54.77. In sixth was Chris Dawson of North Shore Swimming Club in a time of 54.85. In seventh was Ben Carr of Neptune Swim Club in a time of 55.19. In eighth was Corey Main of Howick Pakuranga with a time of 55.25.

Women’s 100 Back

Gina Galloway of North Shore Swimming Club touched first with a time of 1:01.47. In second was Ali Galyer of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 1:01.73. Gabrielle Fa’amausili of United Swimming Club was third with a time of 1:02.16. In fourth was Emma Godwin of Heretaunga Sundevils with a time of 1:02.53. In fifth was Cassie Wright of Qeii Swim Club with a time of 1:03.06. Paige Flynn of St Peter’s Swimming Club touched sixth with a time of 1:03.23. In seventh was Karolina Hajkova of Vskuk Bratislava, Slovakia with a time of 1:03.50. In eighth was Kyla Alexander of United Swimming Club with a time of 1:03.92.

Men’s 50 Breast

In a tie for third was Adam Kealiher of Punahou Aquatics Institute and Matthew Holder of Phoenix Aquatics with a time of 28.67. In second was Eliot Lundon-Moore of Capital Swim Club with a time of 28.71. In third was Josh Pickett of Matamata Swim Club with a time 28.94. In fifth was Zarhn Collins of Aquabladz New Plymouth Swimming with a time of 29.10. In sixth was Taichi Vakasama of Fiji Swimming with a time of 29.12. In seventh was Julian Layton of Heretaunga Sundevils with a time of 29.20. In eighth was Josh Gilbert of Evolution Aquatics Tauranga with a time of 29.21.

Women’s 400 Free

Erika Fairweather of Neptune Swim Club with a time of 4:09.33 at the 2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships. She secured a spot on the World Championships team to compete in Gwangju in a month. In second was Eve Thomas of Coast Swimming Club with a time of 4:11.74. In third was Carina Doyle of North Shore Swimming Club with a time 4:12.38. In fourth was Caitlin Deans of Neptune Swim Club with a time of 4:18.65. In fifth was Hayley McIntosh of Phoenix Aquatics with a time of 4:19.06. In sixth was Monique King of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 4:23.20. In seventh was Ruby Heath of Capital Swim Club with a time of 4:24.57. Bree Middleton of Ashburton Swim Team rounded out the heat with a time of 4:28.32.

Men’s 200 Back

In first was Kane Follows of Mt Eden Swimming with a time of 1:58.86 to close night three of the 2019 New Zealand Swimming Championships. In second was Thomas Watkins of Capital Swim Club with a time of 2:00.06. In third was Andrew Jeffcoat of Pukekohe Swimming Club with a time of 2:00.15. Zac Dell of Pukekohe Swimming Club was fourth with a time of 2:03.64. In fifth was Angus Kelliher of North Canterbury Swim Club Inc with a time of 2:04.28. In sixth was Jack Anderson of United Swimming Club with a time of 2:04.55. In seventh was Cameron Gray of North Shore Swimming Club with a time of 2:05.33. Rounding out the top eight was Talon Lindquist of Kodiak KingFishers with a time of 2:07.66.
