UMBC Looks Good Going Into AE Finals

After taking the lead at the America East Conference Championships last night, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) got off to a fast start in the first race of Sunday’s preliminary events.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Maryland, Baltimore County placed four swimmers in the top eight. New Hampshire’s Linnea Lemerise took the top spot, however, posting a time of 2:00.67. Maryland, Baltimore County swimmers touched in second, third, fourth and sixth place.

A New Hampshire swimmer was also first in the 100-yard freestyle. Liza Baykova posted a time of 50.17.

The 200-yard breaststroke preliminary went well for Maryland, Baltimore County. Emily Escobedo touched first in 2:08.41 and was followed by her teammate Kayla Lilly. New Hampshire swimmers touched in third and fourth.

Maryland, Baltimore County’s Catherine Frediani took first place in the 200-yard butterfly heats. She posted a time of 2:03.46.

Maryland, Baltimore County: 626
New Hampshire: 588.5
Vermont: 446
Maine: 301
Binghamton: 224.5

Tonight’s finals will also include the 400-yard freestyle relay. The meet is taking place in Worcester, Massachusetts. New Hampshire led after the first two days, but Maryland, Baltimore County was able to take the lead after a strong showing in last night’s finals.
