Suzuka Hasegawa Sets PB Of 2:05.62 For 200 Fly in Tokyo; Irie And Hagino Lead The Way

Suzuka Hasegawa wrapped up a highly-successful meet with a personal best of 2:05.62 in the 200 fly at the Tokyo Special Swimming Tournament.

Ryosuke Irie and Kosuke Hagino also topped the podium in the 100 back and 200IM respectively, the pair stopping the clock at 53.14 and 1:58.20 at the Tatsumi International Swimming Center.

Reona Aoki added the 200 breaststroke to her 1oo title in 2:24.70.

It was a second PB in as many days for Hasegawa and came 24 hours after she went second all-time in Japan with 57.49 in the 100 fly.

The Asian Games bronze medallist went through in 28.09/59.33/1:32.01 before a final 50 of 33.61 saw her beat her previous best from July 2016.

She vaulted to the top of the world rankings – leapfrogging former leader Hali Flickinger‘s 2:06.11 – although they are so distorted by the effects of the pandemic.

The 20-year-old posted on social media, saying:

100Fly 57-49 Best!!
200Fly 2-05-62 Best!!

“It was a race where I think I did not make a mistake. I think this is the start and I’ll do my best towards reaching my new goals.

On Sunday he was out in 25.79 and back in 27.35 for a time only bettered this year by him and 2016 Olympic gold and silver medallists Ryan Murphy and Xu Jiayu.

Hagino went 25.23/54.47/1:28.74 before coming home with a final-50 blast of 29.46.

In the women’s 200 breaststroke, Aoki went 32.40/1:09.13/1:47.07 before coming home in 37.63.
