Substantial Time Drops Highlight Night One Of Stanford Future Championships

The first session of USA Swimming Futures took place at Stanford University this evening. The timed finals resulted in multiple winners and substantial time drops.

Ryan Falk of Tualatin Hills Swim Club dropped over seven seconds from her seed time to win the Women’s 800 Meter Freestyle in 8:52.57. Claire Schaef of the Tri-city Channel Cats clocked in five seconds later, earning her second place with a time of 8:58.24. Third place went to Stephanie Su of the Anaheim Aquatics Association who finished in 8:59.24.

Brooks Fail, swimming unattached, dropped five seconds from his seed time to out-touch Noah Brune of Mission Viejo Nadadores and win the Men’s 1500 Meter Freestyle in 15:45.14. Brune came in second with a 15:45.17. Third place went to Don Jin Hwang of Mano Aquatics who dropped 20 seconds to finish with a 15:47.55.

The Santa Clara Swim Club won the Women’s 800 Meter Freestyle Relay in 8:19.88. Lead-off Cathy Teng had the fastest 200 split of the relay (2:03.26), and was joined by Nicole Olivia, Jenny Ma, and Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou. Falk teamed up with Lisa Kaunitz, Caitlyn Wilson, and Emily Cook to garner a second place finish for the Tualatin Hills Swim Club in a time of 8:20.59. Third place went to the relay of Vicky Wong, Leah Goldman, Chloe Kennedy Isleta, and Isabelle Henig of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics, touching the wall in 8:24.90.

The Walnut Creek Aquabears dropped five seconds to win the Men’s 800 Freestyle Relay. The relay consisted of Eric Vanbrocklin, Jake Rollo, Lee Ward, and Mason Tittle. The relay of Benjamin Ho, Alex Liang, Michael Lincoln, and Joe Molinari from Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics came in a close second, posting a 7:35.34. The Santa Clara Swim Club finished the night with a third place. The relay of Thomas Reed, David Noyes, Michael Messner, and Ryan Lewis clocked in with a 7:38.95.

Prelims begin tomorrow morning at 9:00 am.
