Mie Nielsen Cranks Out 59.16 in 100 Back in Edinburgh

Mie Nielsen blasted the women’s 100-meter back finale at the 2016 Edinburgh Invitational.

Nielsen threw down a sizzling time of 59.16, going out in 28.95. That performance shot her to second in the world behind only Emily Seebohm’s 59.03 from the Aquatic Super Series. Elizabeth Simmonds (1:00.40) and Jessica Fullalove (1:00.81) finished second and third.

Ruta Meilutyte demonstrated some consistency as she topped the women’s 50-meter breast tournament.

Meilutyte had already jumped to the top of the world rankings in the women’s 50-meter breast with a 30.40 split as part of her second-ranked 1:05.82 100-meter breast earlier this weekend.

Meilutyte turned in a 30.69, 31.12, 32.01 and 31.70 in order from the first round to the last for the win.

Sam Horrocks, meanwhile, won the men’s 50-meter fly tourney.

Aimee Willmott, already the second-ranked swimmer in the world with a 4:34.82 from the Speedo Flanders Cup, won the women’s 400-meter IM in 4:35.84. Hannah Miley took second in 4:37.24 to move to fifth in the world. Rosie Rudin wound up third in 4:50.61.

Dimitrios Koulouris won the men’s 200-meter breast in a time of 2:12.50 with Andrew Willis taking second in 2:12.79. Craig Benson placed third in 2:14.27.

Chris Walker-Hebborn topped the men’s 100-meter back in 54.94 with Luke Greenbank taking second in 56.18. Craig McNally snared third in 56.20.

Viktor Bromer took home the men’s 200-meter fly in 1:57.64 with Brendan Hyland earning second in 1:59.23. Jay Lelliott wound up third in 2:00.26.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo demonstrated some longer-distance speed as the sprinter won the women’s 200-meter free in 1:59.18. Robin Neumann took second in 1:59.64 with Esmee Vermeulen earning third in 1:59.94.

Stephen Milne took the title in the men’s 200-meter free in 1:47.87. Sebastiaan Verschuren finished second in 1:48.57 with Robbie Renwick placing third in 1:48.87.
