Kyle Millis’ Stroke by Stroke: How to Swim Backstroke Like Ryan Murphy
Down the road, the day will arrive when Ryan Murphy is inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. An Olympic and world champion on multiple occasions, the former Cal-Berkeley Bear emerged as a future star during his teenage years and turned that potential into a sensational career on the international stage. This past summer, Murphy collected three medals at the Olympic Games in Paris – gold in the mixed medley relay, silver in the men’s medley relay and bronze in the 100 backstroke. That haul raised his career total to nine medals in Olympic competition.
Now, podcaster Kyle Millis, a Swimming World partner, has taken time to evaluate the skills that have made Murphy one of his sport’s elite performers. In this edition of Stroke by Stroke, a regular feature packaged by Millis, Murphy’s talents are broken down into a variety of categories. The 10-minute video looks at the way the American standout, a regular captain for Team USA at major events, performs his starts, turns and underwaters. In the final segment, a stroke analysis is provided.
Whether at the age-group level, in Masters competition, in the high school ranks or in college, Murphy is someone who can be tracked to help swimmers improve their backstroke skills. After all, he’s one of the best in history. Click here or on the video below to learn from Ryan Murphy.
