Jeffco Hurricanes Win Team Title at Four Corners Speedo Sectionals

Speedo Sectionals Four Corners concluded this evening with night four of finals. Jeffco Hurricanes won with an overall team score of 647.5. Highlands Ranch Aquatics finished in second place as a team with 617 points, 608 of which were scored by the women’s team. Third place overall went to University of Denver Hilltoppe with 566 points.

24-year-old Olympian Breeja Larson took home a third first-place finish in the women’s 200 IM to start the session, touching the wall in a quick 1:57.70, five seconds ahead of the field. Second place went to Delaney Smith of Highland Ranch Aquatics in 2:02.41. Phoenix Swim Club’s Savanna Carlson finished in the third spot with a time of 2:03.98.

Pikes Peak Athletics’ Daniel Carr won the fast A-final of the men’s 200 IM in dominating fashion, with a time of 1:45.94. Carr’s time was two and a half seconds ahead of second-place Jeffco Hurricanes’ Michael Zarian‘s time of 1:48.38. The top two were the only athletes under 1:50.00, as Jarod Arroyo of Pitchfork Aquatics took third in 1:51.12.

Next came the distance event of the evening, the 1650 freestyle. Kate Sanderson of Colorado Springs Swim Team took first place by a large margin of 26 seconds, finishing in a time of 16:20.34. Brittney Beetcher of RallySport Aquatic Club’s time of 16:46.85 garnered her second-place honors, with third-place Lindsey Soule of Corvallis Aquatic Team close behind in 16:52.55.

University of Arizona-bound Brooks Fail of Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics, the 500 champion, notched another distance win in the men’s event with a best time of 15:03.57, winning by almost 30 seconds. Ryan King of Montrose Marlins Swim Club finished in second place, stopping the clock in 15:31.83. Third place went to Quinton Pierce of Jeffco Hurricanes with his time of 15:39.43.

Swimming unattached, Larson stepped up yet again, winning the women’s 50 freestyle in 22.62. Kylie Andrews of Foothills Swim Team finished second in 23.18, while 15-year-old Meredith Rees of Pikes Peak Athletics finished third in 23.34.

There was a tie for first place in the men’s 50 freestyle, between Corvallis Aquatic Team’s Casey McEuen and University of Denver Hilltoppe’s Keegan Bundy. Both swimmers sprinted to a time of 20.77. Third place went to Clay Stoddard Phoenix Swim Club in 20.89.

To finish off a weekend of fast swimming, Highland Ranch Aquatics’ B-squad of Elsa Litteken, Holley Dennis, Alex Reddington, and Kaitlin Nats combined to beat their A-relay and finish first in the women’s 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.10. Highland Ranch’s A-team of Natalie Arky, Emma Spotts, Madison Hoehn, and Smith finished in a close second with their swim of 3:44.40. Third place went to Kaitlyn McCoy, Lara Gemar, Katie Higgins, and Elisa Rodriguez of Phoenix Swim Club, who finished in 3:46.70.

University of Denver Tilltoppe finished first on the men’s side, as Bundy, William Goodwin, Seth Hendrix, and Ryan Peterson combined for a five-second drop from their seed time and a time of 3:22.58. The efforts of Gavin Olson, Jack Moranetz, Gordon Pexton, and Payton Sage resulted in a time of 3:23.98 and a second-place finish for Foothills Swim team. Jeffco Hurricanes’ team of Nicholas Fox, Pierce, Zarian, and Justin Li finished third with a time of 3:24.87, Zarian splitting an impressive 47.81 on the butterfly leg.
