Indian River Qualifies 30 Men and Women for Day 4 Finals of 2018 NJCAA Championships

Indian River continued their seemingly never-ending streak of dominance during the preliminary session on day four of the 2018 NJCAA Championships by placing 30 swimmers all together in either an A or B final tonight. This further solidifies Indian River as the NJCAA powerhouse it already is.

The women’s 50 butterfly kicked off the morning session with the Indian River trio of Sophia Diagne (25.59), Camryn Wheals (26.27) and Jana Burner (26.54)  taking the top three spots. Iowa Central’s Kaila Valentine will round out the A final with her 27.96.

Indian River took another top seed this morning, in the men’s 50 fly with Ruben Van Leeuwen posting a 21.76 ahead of Iowa Central’s Emery Mitch who swam a 22.57 to grab the second spot. Taking the third seed going into tonight will be Indian River’s Tig Pilkington (22.91).

The women’s 100 free featured an Indian River six-swimmer takeover with Camryn Wheals (51.75) taking the top seed over her teammate’s Courtney Perrett (52.17) and Malin Wallen (52.48). Barton’s Reagan Smyth will take lane eight in tonight’s A final.

The men’s 100 free saw yet another 1-2-3 posting for Indian River. Tonight’s A final will be centered with Ryen Van Wyk (45.23) in lane four while his teammates Guillaume Bolivard (45.67) and Kevin Bargate (45.95) will flank him in lanes five and six, respectively.

Indian River’s Sule van der Merwe posted the fastest time of the morning heats of women’s 200 back with her 2:03.69, which was well quick enough to touch in front of teammate Courtney Stewart who swam a time of 2:05.84. Taking the third spot going into tonight will be MCC’s Alicia Shenal (2:10.71).

Indian River’s Gabriele Sasia took first in the men’s 200 back prelims by posting a 1:51.98 ahead of Luka Tomic who cruised a 1:55.77 to put himself in the second position. Taking third was Lincoln’s Mark Dominovic (1:56.38).

Indian River continued to pile swimmers into A final heats with Olivia Berglund blowing away the field in the women’s 200 breast with her 2:20.34. Iowa Lake’s Brenda Neves posted the second fastest time in a 2:31.23. Lake Erie’s Allie DeBiase swam herself into the third place spot with a 2:33.82.
