Freshmen Make Instant Impact in West Virginia Win over Marshall

West Virginia’s freshmen made an instant impact in a win Friday over Marshall for the women’s team. Rowan Baglole and Evey Quick each won individual events and posted a top-10 program time in helping the Mountaineers to a 214-61 win in Morgantown.

West Virginia won all 16 events at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in the women’s only meet. Nine of those wins came from freshmen or first-year Mountaineers.

Baglole won the 200 freestyle in 1:48.47, the 10th-fastest time in program history. As she did in the 200, she edged teammate Grace Greenhalf with a time of 50.84 to win the 100 free. Balgole joined Greenhalf, Sara Mason and Taylor Clements to win the 400 free relay in 3:25.26.

Quick was just that in the 100 butterfly, her time of 54.02 seconds sixth-best in program history. She won the 50 free in 23.68 seconds. Quick also swam fly on the victorious 200 medley relay, joining Delaney Cox, Clements and Mason to go 1:41.19.

Abby Hill won the 1,000 free for West Virginia. Cox claimed the 100 backstroke in 55.30 ahead of teammate Maggie Wright, who went 55.96. Wright went on to win the 200 back in 1:59.58, with Madalyn Witt second and Cox third. Clements claimed the 100 breaststroke with a dominant time of 1:00.93.
