French Trials, Day 6 Prelims: Maxime Grousset Leads Way In 100 Fly

Maxime Grousset took pole position in the 100 fly in 51.03 on the final day of the French Championships in Chartres, which double as trials for a home Games next month.

The 2023 world champion split 23.53/27.50 for the fifth-fastest time of his career topped by the 50.14 en-route to the title in Fukuoka.

The 25-year-old was well inside the 51.67 cut for Paris 2024 and was followed by Mehdy Metella, who clocked 51.70 as he seeks to book an Olympic berth, eight years after winning relay silver at Rio 2016.

Beryl Gastaldello was inside the 50 free QT of 24.70 in 24.56 with the final set to be quite the tussle with Melanie Henique (24.76) and Marie Wattel (24.91).

Leon Marchand – with the 400IM, 200 fly and 200 breast to his name in Paris – will attempt to add the 2IM to his programme.

Enzo Tesic led the prelims in 2:00.89 with the 2023 world champion 0.07 adrift in 2:00.96.

Cyrielle Duhamel heads the women’s short medley in 2:16.35.
