Five Records Fall as Virginia, Navy Win ECAC Championships

Five meet records highlighted the final day of the 2016 ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Virginia’s Eryn Eddy set a new meet mark in the women’s 100 free in a quick 48.81. UMBC’s Gregor Spoerlein also broke the meet record in the men’s 100 free, posting a time of 44.22. Rutgers’ Francesca Stoppa broke the meet record in the women’s 200 fly with a time of 1:56.85.

Virginia’s 400 free relay (3:18.68) and Navy’s 400 free relay (2:58.20) were also under the old meet records.

Navy’s Eric Collins was named the Men’s Swimmer of the Meet. The junior took ninth in the 200 IM and first in both the 100 and 200 breast.

Rutgers’ Francesca Stoppa was awarded the Women’s Swimmer of the Meet. The freshman won both the 100 and 200 fly.

Marist’s Peter Gallino was the ECAC Men’s Diver of the Meet. The sophomore took second on both the 1m (279.50) and 3m (292.95).

Virginia’s Kirsten Parkinson was named the ECAC Female Diver of the Meet. The freshman won the 1m (281.65) and took fourth on the 3m (286.35).

Women’s 400 Free Relay

Virginia’s Eddy (48.58), Laine Reed (50.10), Rommel (50.38), and Samantha James (49.62) won the final women’s event of the weekend in 3:18.68. Army’s Kelly Hamilton (50.51), Jenna Forrester (51.56), Julia Bush (51.45), and Monica Sowinski (51.84) took second in 3:25.36.

Men’s 400 Free Relay

Army’s Chris Szekely (44.66), Evin Rude (44.47), Devin McCall (44.86), Brandon McCredie (44.21) won the final event of the meet in 2:58.20. Rider’s Martir (45.28), Zachary Molloy (44.35), Jeff Prichard (45.78), and Vincent Gibbons (44.15) finished second in 2:59.56.

The possessive of Rutgers is Rutgers’s not Rutger’s.
