Duncan Scott Wins Double Gold At Scottish National Open Swimming Championships
Duncan Scott claimed double gold at the Scottish National Open Swimming Championships in Edinburgh on Friday in his final competition before Paris 2024.
The six-time Olympic medallist, one of five Scots who will swim for Great Britain at the Games next month, won the 200IM and 100m freestyle at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.
Scott, the Olympic silver medallist, won the 200IM in 1:57.95 ahead of Evan Jones (2:00.03) and George Smith (2:00.77).
He returned around 15 minutes later for the 100 free where he stopped the clock at 48.88 with David Cumberlidge (49.05) and Jack McMillan (49.45) following him home.
Scott said:
“It’s the last bit of racing before the Olympics, at this point in the season I’m pretty tired and just counting down the days for a bit of rest.
“That was a really good opportunity to go head to head with some people who were more fresh. David [Cumberlidge] swam so well at trials and he gave me a good battle in that tonight, so it’s good race preparation once again.
“I think the 200IM maybe even helped with the hundred as I was primed – although maybe 15 minutes was a little tight! I’m really happy with that turnaround, and overall just really pleased with how I executed them both. There will be plenty to take forward and learn going into the Olympics.”
Angharad Evans made another journey inside 1:06 to win the 100m breaststroke with the University of Stirling swimmer clocking 1:05.71 ahead of Kara Hanlon who touched in 1:06.83.
Rory Dickson (University of Stirling) picked up the men’s 100m breaststroke title, Scott Gibson (University of Edinburgh) took the 50 back and Tom Beeley (University of Aberdeen) claimed the 200 fly.
Yasmin Hamerlaine claimed victory (University of Edinburgh) won the women’s 50 back and Coco Croxford (South Lanarkshire Swimming) took the 200 fly.
The 800m freestyle titles were won by Michaella Glenister (University of Stirling) and Alexander Sargeant (Millfield).
