Diogo Ribeiro Sets Portuguese 100 Fly Record Of 51.45; Ana Rodrigues Twice Lowers 50 Breaststroke Mark

Diogo Ribeiro continued to rewrite the history books when he lowered the national 100 fly record to 51.45 at the Portugal Open.

The 18-year-old went 51.80 in the prelims, 0.19 outside his Portuguese record of 51.61 in the semis of the European Championships in Rome last year where he would go on to finish eighth in the final.

He returned in the evening to split 23.89/27.56 en-route to victory to continue his record-breaking form of the meet that has so far seen him set new standards in the 50 free (21.87) and 100 free (47.98).

Ribeiro contests the 50 fly on Sunday in which he holds the world junior record of 22.96 from the 2022 world juniors where he won three titles.

Mariana Cunha won the women’s event in 59.45.

Ana Rodrigues‘ 50br record stood at 31.04 since Rome 2022 before she became the first Portuguese woman inside 31 when she went 30.98 in prelims.

Come the finals and she took a further 0.02secs off in 30.96.

Alexandre Amorim won the men’s race in 28.48.

Jose Lopes was the only man inside 4mins in the 400 free with a dominant victory in 3:55.39 while Francisca Martins won the women’s equivalent in 4:11.02.

That came 24 hours after Martins set a new Portuguese mark of 56.25 in the 100 free.

Gabriel Lopes was the sole swimmer inside 2mins in the men’s 200IM in 1:59.29 with Angelica Andre winning the women’s title in 2:20.11.

Diogo Cardoso (15:30.36) and Tamila Holub (16:50.24) were swiftest in their respective men’s and women’s 1500 timed finals.
