Delaware Swim Team Takes The Lead On Night Three At Christiansburg Sectionals

Delaware Swim Team had a phenomenal day three at the Speedo Sectionals in Christiansburg. They lead the girl’s, boy’s, and combined team score with one day remaining.

757 Swim’s Joelle Vereb (25.48), Colby Hurt (29.90), Sofia Long (25.03), and Abigail Larson (22.26) won the girl’s 200 medley relay in 1:42.67. Golden Ram took second in 1:43.72 and Nation’s Capital’s took third in 1:45.36.

Delaware’s Jacob Johnson (23.09), Matthew Otto (25.64), Connor Sweeney (22.59), Alec Menzer (20.81) won the boy’s 200 medley relay in 1:32.13. Egg Harbor finished second in 1:33.22 and Lancaster finished third in 1:34.61.

Radnor’s Morgan Liberto dropped over two seconds to win the girl’s 200 fly in 2:01.16. Nation’s Capital’s Madeline Laporte took second in 2:01.92 and Peters Township’s Abigail Hay finished third in 2:02.68.

Delaware’s Jacob Johnson dominated the boy’s 200 fly, winning by nearly four seconds in 1:46.78. His teammate Connor Sweeney swam to second in 1:50.35 and Golden Ram’s Matthew Magness finished third in 1:50.79.

Nation’s Capital’s Katelyn Mack swam to first place in the girl’s 50 free, touching the wall in 22.77. Swimming unattached for Virginia Tech, Maggie Gruber took second in 22.86 and 757 Swim’s Abigail Larson took third in 23.05.

Ti-Hampton’s David Curtiss won gold in the boy’s 50 free, stopping the clock in 20.60. Coast Guard Blue’s Parker Harp finished second in 21.03 and Egga Harbor’s Justin Liu completed the top three in 21.14.

Fox Chapel’s Bailey Bonnett cruised to first in the girl’s 200 breast in 2:12.62, three seconds ahead of the field. Delaware’s Olivia Paoletti took second in 2:15.28 and Golden Ram’s Heather Maccausland rounded out the top three in 2:15.41.

Delaware’s Matthew Otto was the only swimmer under the two-minute barrier in the boy’s 200 breast, winning by nearly six seconds in 1:59.06. Severna Park’s Jackson Schultz swam to second in 2:04.93 and Egg Harbor’s Brian McGroarty finished third in 2:05.25.

Liberto won her second event of the evening, this time taking gold in the girl’s 100 back with a 54.90. 757 Swim’s Joelle Vereb took second in 55.10 and Columbia’s Alyssa Vannetta took third in 55.78.

Johnson also won his second race of the night, just out-touching the runner-up in the boy’s 100 back in 49.58. Egg Harbor’s Cristian Bell finished a close second in 49.72 and Coast Guard Blue’s Connor Killion took third in 50.28.

After her win in the mile yesterday, Egg Harbor’s Maggie Wallace won the girl’s 500 free tonight in 4:49.56. Radnor’s Anna Kalandadze finished second in 4:51.10 and Egg Harbor’s Amanda Nunan rounded out the top three in 4:52.52.

Also following up his mile win rom last night, Lancaster’s Arthur Markley won the boy’s 500 free in 4:29.42. Colin Murphy took second in 4:31.03 and Magness took third in 4:34.00.

Golden Ram’s Erika Martin (54.06), Ann Carozza (51.33), Camryn Carter (51.48), and Maccausland (48.96) won a very close girl’s 400 free relay in 3:25.83. 757 Swim took a close second in 3:25.90 and Nation’s Capital took third in 3:28.29.

Delaware’s Johnson (46.18), Emils Gustav Jurcik (46.29), Jeb Darhower (45.62), and Alex Menzer (46.08) cruised to first in the boy’s 400 free relay in 3:04.17. Nation’s Capital finished second in 3:06.86 and Lancaster swam to third in 3:07.93.

Tomorrow’s events will include the 200 free relay, 200 back, 100 free, 200 IM, 400 medley relay, boy’s 1650, and girl’s 1000 free.
