Close Women’s 50 Free Field Highlights Day Seven Prelims Of Chinese Nationals

Day seven prelims of the 2016 Chinese Nationals kickstarted with the women’s 50-meter freestyle before switching gears to the men’s 1500-meter free.

The women kept it close in the 50-meter free with the top three qualifiers posting times within .14 seconds of each other. Liu Xiang topped the competition with a sizzling 25.01. Xiang’s time sits a shy .06 seconds outside of the top 20 world rankings for 2016. Grabbing second overall was Chen Xinyi with a time of 25.05, while Zhumeng Hui grabbed third with a 25.15.

Qui of Shanghai Hosa outlasted the competition in prelims of the men’s 1500-meter freestyle turning in a final time of 15:18.01 to lead the competition by more than seven seconds. Grabbing second was Shanghai Hosa teammate Wang Zhou who stopped the clock at a 15:25.72. Rounding out the top three was Joe Chung Yi with a time of 15:29.34.
