Carlyn Soares Swims Strong On Day 3 Of Pleasant Prairie Sectionals

The third day of the Pleasant Prairie Speedo Sectionals was swam today. The men’s and women’s 400 IM, 50 free, 200 breaststroke and 400 freestyle were competed.

Ruby Martin of the Iowa Flyers won the women’s 400 IM. She bested her entry time going a 4:49.39, which is an Olympic trials qualifying time. Springfield YMCA’s Kaitlynn Wheeler came in second place with a 5:01.42 and Carlyn Soares of Phonix Swimming finished with a 5:02.78 for the bronze.

Phoenix Swimming came in first and second place in the men’s 400 IM. Joseph Turk took the gold with a 4:31.88 and his teammate Adi Arifovic took silver with a 4:45.86. In third place was Andrew Rodriguez from Ripon Community Swim Club with the time of 4:46.51.

In the women’s 50 free Grace Ariola of the Bloomington Waves won the event. She took gold with a 26.16 and just made the Olympic trials Qualifying time. Piranhas Swim Club’s Sarah Schemmel came in for the silver with a 26.38 and Taylor Wilcox, unattached, was third with a 26.70.

Daniel Krueger of McFarland Spartan Sharks won the men’s 50 free in the time of 23.44. Iowa Flyer’s Mark McGlaughlin touched the wall with a 23.54 for second place and Ty Jacobs, unattached, finished third with a 23.70.

Phoenix Swimming’s Soares won the women’s 200 breast with a 2:38.94. Iowa Flyer’s Emma Hruby came in second place with a 2:39.04 and in a close third place was Danica Delaquis, unattached with a 2:39.49.

In the men’s 200 breastroke, unattached, Nicholasbill Schafer, the winner of the 100 breast, won the men’s 200 breaststroke today. He went a 2:14.7 for the gold, an Olympic trials qualifying time. Glenview Titan Aquatic Club’s Sam Iida was second with a 2:20.50 and in third place with the time of 2:21.02 was Chris Wills, unattached.

Kristen Jacobsen of Barrington Swim Club won the women’s 400 free in the time of 4:20.08. In second was Waves Bloomington’s Melissa Pish with a 4.22.42 and with the time of 4:24.24 was Magdalena Emary of Barrington Swim Club for third place.

It was a race for the gold in the men’s 400 freestyle tonight. Iowa Flyer’s Nicholas Saulnier won the event in a 4:08.82. He just out touched Chicago Wolfpack’s Jacob Furlong who took silver with a 4:08.86. In third was Colin O’Leary of Barrington Swim Club with a 4:10.27.
