Abbey Weitzeil Sets New Meet Record At TYR Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions

The Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions, sponsored by TYR, kicked off yesterday in California with swift times from some of swimming’s top sprinters.

Abbey Weitzeil delivered a stunning finish of 54.13 in the women’s 100 free to finish almost two seconds ahead of the competition. Weitzeil’s finish set a new meet and pool record in the event.

Dylan Carter followed up Weitzeil’s top finish with a sub-50 second finish in the men’s 100 free. Carter stopped the clock at 49.74 to be the only athlete under the 50-second mark. Justin Lynch turned in a 50.19 for second, while Michael Domagal was third with a 50.68.

Noelle Tarazoma topped the women’s 200 fly field with a time of 2:12.78. Haley Anderson and Katie McLaughlin kept a close race for second and third. Anderson got her hand to the wall first, stopping the clock at a 2:13.64 ahead of McLaughlin’s 2:13.88.

A close finish highlighted the men’s 200 fly with Brendan Meyer and Grant Shoults finishing .05 seconds apart. Meyer out-touched Shoults 2:00.72 to 2:00.77. Bobby Bollier was close behind with a 2:00.82.

The women’s 200 back was won by Amy Bilquist who stopped the clock at a 2:13.22. Eva Merrell finished close behind with a time of 2:13.55.

Patrick Mulcare dashed ahead of the competition in the men’s 200 back, finishing almost three full seconds ahead of the field with a 2:01.99.

Stephanie Peaco posted the top time in the women’s 400 free with a quick 4:10.65, while Anderson turned in a 4:17.31 for second.

Ous Mellouli took the title in the men’s 400 free with a 3:52.52. Shoults finished second overall with a 3:58.01, while Nick McDowell was third with a 3:59.22.
