8 Meet Records Fall Out of 10 Events at Day 2 of the Malaysia Open

On the second day of the 59th Malaysia Open Swimming Championship eight meet records fell, in a day that only had ten events.

Stephanie Au Hoi-Shun won the women’s 50 backstroke in meet record time, stopping the clock in 28.53. Wai Ting Yu was second in a 29.83 while Caroline Chan finished third in 29.92.

The meet record also fell in the men’s 50 backstroke as I Gede Siman S Sudartawa powered his way to a 25.17, well ahead of second place Tern Jian Han in 26.55 and Tzi Rok Wong in 27.50.

Camille Lily Mei Cheng won her second event in as many days, setting a 200 freestyle meet record with her time of 2:00.23. Sagita Putri Krisdewanti earned silver in 2:05.53. Raina Saumi Grahana posted a 2:06.52 for bronze.

Welson Sim Wee Sheng won the men’s 200 freestyle in another meet record time of 1:48.46. Second place went to Cheung Kin Tat Kent in 1:51.82. Zheng Yang Yeap secured third in 1:52.09.

Phee Jinq En continued the meet record setting streak of the evening, winning the 50 breaststroke in 32.06. Erika Kong was second in 32.91 and Vanessa At Evato won bronze with a 33.86.

For the men, Sandeep Sejwal won in a new meet record time of 28.34, ahead of Indra Gunawan (28.46) and Kwok Ka Fai (29.02).

Phiangkhwan Pawapotako won the women’s 200 IM by three seconds, touching in 2:18.41. Ressa Kania Dewi finished in 2:21.51 for second, just ahead of Erika Kong in 2:21.68.

With a 2:02.16, Triady Fauzi Sidiq finished well ahead of the field in the men’s 200 IM. Muhammad Hamgari placed second with a 2:06.13. Third went to Ayman Klezi in 2:08.13.

The meet records fell in both 800 freestyle relays. On the women’s side, the Hong Kong team of Chan Kin Lok, Yu Wai Ting, Cheng, and Sze Hang Yu finished in 8:20.29, 12 seconds under the old record. Indonesia’s Ricky AnggawidjajaSatrio BagaskaraAflah Fadlan Prawira, and Putera Muhammad Randa won by nearly 20 seconds, in a 7:44.00.
