2018 Australian Short Course Championships: McEvoy, Seebohm, Titmus Win

The Australian Short Course Championships continued on Saturday with a full slate of events and some of the top swimmers in the world turning in strong performances so far in the meet.

Here is what happened on the final night.

Men’s 100 Breast Multi-Class

Timothy Disken took the top spot in the multi-class 100 breast, finishing in 1:08.49.

Grant Patterson was second in 2:15.24 and Jake Michel was third (1:04.52).

Multi-class events span different ability levels, so the fastest times don’t always mean a victory.

Women’s 200 Fly

Laura Taylor crushed the field in the 200 Fly to win the event by nearly five seconds to kick off the women’s events for the evening.

Taylor’s slowest split was 16.67 and she finished in 2:05.98.

Jordan White finished second in 2:10.53, followed by Tianni Gilmour (2:11.21) and Kayla Costa (2:11.31).

The first men’s meet of the evening was a close race that came down to the touch.

David Morgan touched in 50.55 to hold off Matthew Temple, who finished in 50.73.

Nicholas Brown was third in 51.03, followed by Edward Marks (51.24).

Men’s 200 Breast

Zac Stubblety-Cook finished strong to win the 200 breast in convincing fashion. He used a 15.66 final split to win the event in 2:04.94, nearly four seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

James McKechnie finished second in 2:08.39, followed by Daniel Cave (2:08.65) and Nikoas Pregelj (2:10.10).

Four swimmers were faster than 22 seconds in the men’s 50 free final.

Cameron McEvoy was almost faster than 21 seconds as he won the event in 21 seconds flat.

Cameron Jones was second in 21.35, followed by Grayson Bell (21.38) and Kyle Chalmers (21.63).

Emily Seebohm used a strong start to cruise to victory in the 200 IM.

The 26-year-old finished in 2:06.75 to beat the field by nearly a second and a half.

Abbey Harkin finished second in 2:08.47, followed by Sian Whittaker (2:11.52) and Sophie Caldwell (2:13.43).
