UMBC Shows Well At Day Three Preliminaries

Saturday’s preliminaries at the America East Conference Championships started with the 400-yard individual medley. New Hampshire’s Brittany Driscoll set the pace with a time of 4:21.63. She was followed by Maryland, Baltimore County’s Aleasha Knight and New Hampshire’s Bridget Miller.

Binghamton’s Selina Ng took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 55.71. Maryland, Baltimore County’s Catherine Frediani was second and Jess Harper of New Hampshire was third.

The next preliminary race was the women’s 200-yard freestyle. New Hampshire’s Liza Baykova was first in the heats with a time of 1:50.59. She was followed by Maryland, Baltimore County’s Kristie Langford and New Hampshire’s Brittany Moffatt.

Maryland, Baltimore County’s Emily Escobedo touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke preliminary. The junior touched in 1:00.12 ahead of her teammate Kayla Lilly and New Hampshire’s Bettina Caspersen.

Prelims ended with the 100-yard backstroke. Maryland, Baltimore County’s Lauren Day led the way with a time of 56.56. She was followed by New Hampshire’s Linnea Lemerise and Vermont’s Kira Hancock.

New Hampshire currently is leading with 299 points. They are followed by Maryland, Baltimore County, Vermont, Maine and Binghamton. There will be one more day of racing after this evening’s finals.
