Matt Grevers’ Meet Record Broken on Night 3 of Brown Deer Sectional

At the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, Sean Lehane shattered Matt Grevers’ 12-year-old Speedo meet record in the 200 backstroke by over four seconds, finishing in a 1:55.56. Lehane also beat his time from the Olympic Trials this past month, where he finished fourth. Lehane’s time moves him to seventh in the world rankings for 2016.

In the women’s 400 freestyle, Ozaukee Aquatics’ Katie Drabot claimed her third title of the meet. She broke her own meet record with a time of 4:13.29. Danielle Valley of Wisconsin Aquatics finished shortly behind Drabot with a 4:14.08.

Drabot also added another win in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a 1:00.30. Azra Avdic nabbed second with a 1:00.99.

In the men’s 100 breaststroke, Connor McHugh of the University of Minnesota just missed the meet record by .37 seconds, clocking a 1:01.83. Unattached Nicholas Staver took second swimming a 1:04.97, while Brenner Hohenstein of Minnetonka followed with a 1:05.02.

In the women’s breaststroke, Maria Carlson of Wisconsin Aquatics won in a 1:09.70. University of Minnesota’s Rae Bullinger finished second with a 1:11.37, and Kristine Malone swam a 1:11.92 for third place.

The closest race of the night was in the men’s 100 butterfly, where Alexander Dillmann of the Mavericks took first with a 55.00, while University of Minnesota’s Bowen Becker finished .05 seconds behind Dillman (55.05). South Central Swim Team’s Tyler Sesvold took third with a 55.28.

In another tight race, Abigail Schwartz claimed first with a 2:18.05 in the 200 backstroke. Kelly Leonard of Riptide finished .11 seconds behind Schwartz for second place, and Mariana Kraus swam a 2:18.93 to take third.

Wisconsin Aquatics’ Sean Maloney won the men’s 400 freestyle with a 3:57.75, and his teammate Nathan Mueller nabbed second with a 4:01.08. Nicholas Plachinski finished third right behind Mueller in a 4:01.56.

In the final event of the night, the Wildcat Aquatics women dropped five and a half seconds in the 800 free relay to take first (8:16.98). Ozaukee Aquatics finished second with an 8:26.88, while Barrington Swim Club clocked an 8:30.63 to take third.

Wisconsin Aquatics finished first on the men’s side (7:38.91), and Academy Bullets followed with a 7:51.90.

Tyler Sesvold who got 3rd in the 100 back is on Saint Charles Swim Team.
