This week’s ZUMO Performance of the Week goes to Annie Lazor for dropping the fastest time in the world and smashing her personal best in the 200 breast at the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series in Bloomington this weekend.

Lazor has been having an outstanding year, particularly in the 200 breast, where she has recorded three personal bests since the start of the year. Before 2019, Lazor’s best in the 200 breast was a 2:24.42 from the 2018 U.S. National Championships. Coming into Bloomington, Lazor had already dropped that time twice, taking her best time down to a 2:22.99 from the Des Moines stop of the TYR Pro Swim Series.

Lazor absolutely smashed that time again here, taking more than 2 seconds off her personal best to hit the wall in 2:20.77. Out very quick in 1:08.87, Lazor backed that up with closing splits of 36.03 and 35.87 to get to the wall first by almost 4 seconds and put up the fastest time in the world this year.

Looking at her splits compared to her previous personal best from Des Moines, the real difference came on the second and the fourth 50’s, both of which were around one second faster than her splits from earlier in the year.

Bloomington: 33.08/35.79/36.03/35.87 (2:20.77)

Des Moine: 33.14/36.78/36.06/37.01 (2:22.99)

Lazor’s time makes her the ninth fastest performer in history in this event, and the second-fastest ever for the United States. According to teammate Cody Miller, Lazor was tapered along with a few of her teammates for this weekend, so it will be interesting to see how much more she has in the tank at the Pan American Games this summer, where she is scheduled to swim soley the 200 breast.

Congratulations to Annie Lazor on earning ZUMO’s Performance of the Week!
