Video Interview: Maggie Aroesty’s New Beginning at USC Leading to Huge Time Drops

USC freshman Maggie Aroesty shocked herself and the crowd this evening at the 2017 USA College Challenge, winning the women’s 200 breaststroke in 2:06.88, a best time by two seconds. Aroesty mentioned being completely surprised that she pulled out another best time, having gone a personal best just last week.

She credits being at her home pool, being able to race somewhere that she’s comfortable in, and having her teammates there to cheer her, on as calming her nerves and being a big part of her win. As the night went on, she explains, the PAC-12 swimmers joined together and stopped thinking about just representing themselves or their own school, but the conference as a whole to beat the USA swimmers.

When asked about her freshman transition, Aroesty mentions that she has created a whole new beginning at USC, where expectations are higher and she has been stepping up, going faster in practice than she ever has before thanks to a great team environment.
