16-year-old Gianluca Urlando talked to the media on Saturday night at the TYR Pro Swim Series about his meteoric rise from the Summer Nationals this summer to Winter Juniors in December. Urlando said he “wanted to get a few NAGs” at the Winter Junior Nationals in Austin and he did just that, including taking down a Michael Phelps national age group record in the 200 fly on the last day.

Urlando talked about his meet here in Knoxville, where he won the 200 fly to touch out Chase Kalisz. He also talked about how his training has been and what he thinks led to his rapid improvement in swimming.

Urlando also talked about why he committed to Georgia and what international meet he will focus on this summer.

Swimming World’s David Rieder talked to Urlando shortly after committing to Georgia in October.
