Elizabeth Beisel recovered from illness in the lead up to Trials to finish second in the 400 IM. She fractured her finger in warm ups on Tuesday morning. Fighting a new injury she had a difficult 200 freestyle and then pulled out of the 200 IM later that session.

Beisel came back and swam through the pain in the 200 backstroke. Despite being the fourth qualifier after semifinals and the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, Beisel finished seventh last night.

The 23 year old will head to Rio as one of few veterans on the team. She’ll swim the 400 IM, the event in which she finished fourth in 2008 and won the silver medal in 2012.

At the conclusion of tonight’s session she spoke for a minute on what the future holds between now and Rio. Already decked out in red, white, and blue, she talked about tomorrow morning’s team practice and the team processing that will follow. Beisel also mentioned the logistics of traveling and regrouping before representing the United States in just over a month.

Does Beisel still swim for a club team? Noticed she was listed as ABF-NE at trials, but she represents (and talks about) Florida Gators. I know she trains in Florida
