COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With 18 Olympic gold medalists leading the way, 46 swimmers are slated to represent the United States against the world’s best at the 2019 FINA World Championships, set for July 12-28, 2019, in Gwangju, South Korea.

In the final major international swimming competition ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, a trio of Olympic champions qualified to represent Team USA in four individual events each: world record-holders Kathleen Baker (Winston-Salem, N.C./Team Elite/California Aquatics) and Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md./Stanford Swimming/NCAP) on the women’s side, and Caeleb Dressel (Green Cove, Springs, Fla./Bolles School Sharks/Florida) for the U.S. men.

Also among the 26 Olympians who qualified for the team are defending Olympic or world champions Chase Kalisz (Bel Air, Md./Athens Bulldog Swim Club/Georgia), Lilly King (Evansville, Ind./Indiana University), Simone Manuel (Sugar Land, Texas/Stanford Swimming/First Colony) and Ryan Murphy (Jacksonville, Fla./California Aquatics).

On his first long-course FINA World Championships roster, Michael Andrew (Lawrence, Kan./Race Pace Club) joins Baker, Dressel and Ledecky by qualifying for four individual events.

“Next year’s FINA World Championships roster features a mix of established veterans and rising stars, and we’re excited to see how they stack up against the world’s best competition following a full season of focused preparation,” USA Swimming National Team Managing Director Lindsay Mintenko said. “In addition to success in Gwangju, our goal will be laying the groundwork for the following summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.”

A complete roster for the July 21-28, 2019, pool competition is available below.

Team members qualified to represent the United States based on the combined results of the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships and the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships. Full selection procedures can be found here.

Next summer will be key for USA Swimming as it prepares for the 2020 Olympic Games. More than 100 swimmers will represent the United States across the FINA World Championships, World University Games and Pan American Games. The additional international rosters will be announced later this fall.
