UC Santa Barbara Adds Verbals from Alyssa Lund, Vivian Mudry for 2022-23 Season

NEW COMMITS: The University of California, Santa Barbara has gained a pair of new verbal commitments for the fall of 2022 from Walnut Creek, Calif. native Alyssa Lund and Vivian Mudry of Branford, Conn.

Both talented swimmers will join Olivia Hovorka and Nina Statler as members of the Gauchos’ Class of 2026.

ALYSSA LUND

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at UCSB! The beautiful campus, academic life, and team are a perfect fit for me! Thank you to my coaches, Matt, Mike, Todd, Russell, Christian, Jeff, family, teammates, and friends for helping me achieve my dream! GO GAUCHOS!”

A talented sprinter, Lund does her club swimming with Walnut Creek Aquabears and last competed at the Washington Open in January 2020 where she placed 11th in the 100 free and earned four best times. She also sprinted to sixth place in the 50 free at East LA Sectionals in December 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.98
  • 100 free – 52.21
  • 100 back – 58.84
  • 100 fly – 58.70

Currently a junior at Northgate High School, Lund finished 10th in both the 50 free and 100 free at the CIF North Coast Section Championships as a freshman. She also anchored her team’s second-place 4×50 free relay and the 4×100 free relay that won the B-final.

VIVIAN MUDRY

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I can’t thank my coaches, teammates, family and friends enough for always pushing me to be my best. Go Gauchos!”

Mudry, who trains year-round with Cheshire Y Sea Dog Swim Club, last competed at Connecticut Seniors in February 2020 where she placed third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 breast. At YMCA LCM Nationals in 2019, she earned bronze in the 100m breast and an additional pair of top-8 finishes.

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 30.41
  • 100 breast – 1:03.09
  • 200 breast – 2:21.71
  • 200 IM – 2:07.90

She also finished 10th in the 100 breast at YMCA SCY Nationals in April 2019. As a freshman at the Hopkins School, Mudry raced at the New England Prep School Athletic Conference DI Championships. There, she raced to third in the 100 breast and eighth in the 200 IM.
