Tracy Menzel, assistant men’s and women’s swimming coach at Kenyon College for the last three seasons, is DePauw’s selection as head women’s swimming and diving coach and aquatics director. She replaces Shea Davisson who resigned to become associate director of athletics at Southwestern University.

“Tracy separated herself from other candidates with her plans to develop a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented student-athlete experience,” said Stevie Baker-Watson, DePauw Associate Vice President for Campus Wellness and Theodore Katula Director of Athletics.

“She routinely shared that she wanted a program culture built on caring relationships as she firmly believes this is key to competitive excellence. We are thrilled she is coming home to Greencastle, following her own experiences as a stellar student-athlete and coach at a top-tier liberal arts institution.”

In her time on the Kenyon staff, also her alma mater, she helped lead the men’s and women’s teams to four top-three NCAA Division III finishes and over 100 individual all-America performances. Included in that were two Division III Swimmer of the Year honorees, three individual national champions and two national champion relays.

Prior to that stint, she was an assistant women’s swimming coach at Rutgers University for three seasons where the team recorded over 125 NCAA “B” cuts, broke over 20 program records with seven swimmers qualifying for the U.S. Open.

Tracy Menzel, a Greencastle native, is a 2009 Kenyon graduate and earned a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in women’s and gender studies and graduated Magna Cum Laude. While a swimmer with the Ladies, she won two NCAA Division III titles in the 100-yard breaststroke and another as a member of the 200 medley relay. Menzel contributed to three NCAA team titles and earned 16 all-America citations while also being an NCAA Woman of the Year finalist. Upon graduation, she served as a ninth grade teacher for three years at McAllen (Texas) High School as part of the Teach for America program.

She then earned a Master of Arts in cultural studies of sport in education from University of California, Berkeley in 2014. While at UC Berkeley, she was a graduate manager for the Bears’ women’s swimming program and also served as an academic coach in the Athletic Study Center.
