012 MISSION VIEJO AND MARK SCHUBERT SPLASH AGAIN UNDER STRICT SOCIAL-DISTANCING GUIDELINES

After spending an extended amount of time away from the pool deck because of the coronavirus pandemic, legendary coach Mark Schubert recently wrote a proposal to the city of Mission Viejo and received permission to train a small group of his Nadadores athletes as long as they adhered to strict social-distancing guidelines.

014 USA SWIMMING DENIES LETTER SPECIFICALLY ALLOWING MISSION VIEJO TO HOLD ORGANIZED PRACTICE

Although Coach Mark Schubert indicated that USA Swimming sent a letter to the City of Mission Viejo that endorsed the city’s swim club to be able to return to practice during the coronavirus pandemic, USA Swimming responded by saying, “What they received is the guidance we provided to all teams: ‘if teams conduct practice, they must follow all local, state and federal public health guidelines.’”

Mission Viejo Nadadores coach Mark Schubert confirmed that he did have a personalized letter sent to him from USA Swimming that stated the organization would not prohibit the club from holding organized practices, as long as the club was respecting guidelines put in place by local, state and federal public health officials.

016 SUN YANG APPEALING TO SWISS TRIBUNAL AGAINST EIGHT-YEAR ANTI-DOPING SUSPENSION

China’s Sun Yang, who was served an eight-year suspension for tampering with a blood sample administered by anti-doping officers in September 2018, filed an appeal against the decision on May 4.

018 WORLD ANTI-DOPING AGENCY CONCLUDED ITS INVESTIGATION INTO 298 RUSSIAN ATHLETES
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced that the Agency’s independent Intelligence and Investigations (I&I) team had completed its investigation of 298 Russian athletes that WADA I&I targeted as part of its ongoing “Operations LIMS’(1) probe into institutionalized doping in Russia. It also provided detailed case packages to 28 Anti-Doping Organizations, including 27 International Federations and one Major Event Organization.

020 MISSY FRANKLIN JOINS BOARD OF YUWA, INDIAN YOUTH SPORTS ORGANIZATION FOR GIRLS

Missy Franklin announced via Instagram that she is joining the board of Yuwa, a youth sports program in Jharkhand, India, for at-risk young girls. Franklin learned about the program at last year’s Laureus World Sports Awards, where Yuwa won the Sport for Good Award.

Olympic gold medalist Kaitlin Sandeno recently debuted a new show via WiSP—Women in Sports Podcasts—aptly titled, “Behind the Blocks.” Sandeno, a four-time Olympic medalist, is also one of the first female GMs in pro sports history with her position for the International Swimming League’s DC Trident.
