Sophomore Kaitlyn Dobler Swims 59.89 100 Breast at Oregon 6A Champs

The 2018 Oregon 6A High School state championships were close meets. The Sunset girls beat the Jesuit girls by a mere 1.5 points, with a score of 207 to 205.5. On the boys side, Jesuit came out ahead, with 157 points to Sunset’s 140.

Girls

Lakeridge won the 200 medley relay in 1:45.56 while Jesuit was second (1:46.02) and Sunset touched third (1:48.80). Jesuit then got two of the top three spots in the 200 freestyle. Elise Kreutzer won the event in 1:50.88 while Sofia Nosack was third in 1:52.92. Sunset’s Angie Lindsay finished second in 1:51.07. Lindsay won the 500 in 5:00.84. Sunset’s Sofia Nosack was second (5:01.45).

Karelyn Laderou of West Linn won the 200 IM in 2:03.02, but Sunset added points from runner up Tia Lindsay in 2:05.08. She was also second in 5:01.48.

Aloha’s Kaitlyn Dobler set a state record in the 50 freestyle with a 22.35. Dobler then crushed the 100 breaststroke. The sophomore clocked a 59.89 to set a state record. Sunset’s Alayna Connor was second (23.10) in the 50. Connor won the 100 free in 50.96. Kreutzer was second in 51.38 and her Jesuit teammate Isabella Wallace was third in 51.61.

Lakeridge’s Mara Newman won the 100 fly in 55.53 ahead of Sunset’s Lindsay Swail (56.21). Newman won the 100 backstroke in 54.62.

Sunset’s Swail, Angie Lindsay, Lily Gardner, and Connor won the 200 freestyle relay by four seconds, setting a division record of 1:34.54.

Lindsay, Lindsay, Swail, and Connor won the final relay for Sunset by nine seconds, touching in 3:25.69.

Boys

Jesuit’s Trent Martinez swam a 1:39.00 to win the 200 freestyle and a 4:32.39 to win the 500.

Beaverton’s Van Mathias claimed the 200 IM by nearly three seconds with a 1:48.01. The Indiana commit set a state record in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 48.89.

McMinnville’s Garret Sutton raced to a 20.71 50 freestyle, just faster than Sunset’s Caspar Corbeau in 20.81 and Westview’s Ethan Luc in 20.92. Luc won the 100 freestyle in 45.50. Corbeau domianted the 100 breaststroke in 55.72.

Jesuit won the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Sunset claimed the 200 freestyle relay.

Lakeridge senior Matthew McComis touched in 51.15 to win the 100 backstroke.
